Fry in the bath!

Recommended Posts

I decided today to clean out the bath, which is where I dump aquarium plants I can't stand to throw out and recently driftwood with java ferns/moss. But most of the plants were dying big time, so time to clean it out...

I was very surprised to see, as I pulled out a big mass of dying plants, little tiny fishies swimming away from me.

The tank the plants came from contains my oranda Sam and Dean, who breed constantly. Usually the third fish in the tank Henry eats all the eggs, but aparently he misses some and they managed to hatch in the bath. I have no idea how long they've been there.

I have 5/6 other fry from them who've been living in a plastic tub for a long while, so the 11 fry I rescued from the bath today have gone to live with them. :D

Here's the bath after the plants were removed. Veeeery nice. Ew.

Sorry for blurriness, my camera hates water.

And one of the original fry, top-down shot:

Amazingly they all look to have nice straight backs and double tails, even split ones! I'm going to go out into the forum and find a feeding guide so I can make them grow quick. :D

Very cool! If you can, save some of the water from the bath tub. Apparently there is something in there that kept the fish fed :)

I kept about 10L of it. :D But I think they're big enough now to be eating brine shrimp.
