Oh no! I'm sorry!

I have no real idea. Maybe is due to osmotic stress from the salt treatment.

I put 20 teaspoon for my 20 gallon tank over 3 times with the last one with only 18 teaspoon to compensate for the finer salt grain and the empty space at the top of the tank.

I quickly did a 50% WC to reduce the salinity after I found 1 dead. Hopefully the 2nd one will be fine.

Need to get another Ryukin as a companion after some more WC in the next few days.

I think that while the teaspoon method works fine, I prefer to use a digital scale, since I can be exact with the measuring.

It may be osmotic stress, but now that you've reminded me about the ich treatment, it is likely that what happened was that the stress from ich brought about the resurgence of flukes on the sick fish. Between those two, it may be too much for the fish to handle. I have had this happen to me, where one of the fish was too weak to handle this in QT.

I'm sorry. I hope you will be able to find another nice ryukin soon!

Here is the only surviver. 2 Oto cats did not make it too.

How long has he been without the spots? Is he still at 0.3% salt?

2 days? Due to stress, I started 50% WC yesterday and another 50% today.

Can't wait any longer or it may be gone too.

Leave it at 0.1% salt at least for another week, though.

Now should be around 0.08% after 2 50% WC. Will leave it as it is till next weekend.

Should I add another Ruykin in anytime soon? 1 single goldfish looks very lonely...

i am sorry to hear that your new fish passed away.. shame, they're both beautiful..

but, i just want to say that in extreme circumstances, we can take salt up to 0.5%, so i am reluctant to think that the salt was the cause of his death...

so sorry for your loss :(

This tank is a 24 x 12 x 18 inches with water filled to 17" level.

That's about 20 US Gallon.

So I will need to does 20 teaspoon over 3 times.

I use a 5 ml measuring spoon for baking to measure the salt flat and dissolve it in tank water before adding it in.

The first and 2nd dose was like 24 hrs apart as I was working the next day and the last one was 12 hrs apart.

Hope I did nothing wrong.

2 of my Oto which were in the tank for half a year died together with the goldfish.

Really have no idea what went wrong. Maybe next time I should just use medication for Ich treatment. :bye2:

Thanks for the confirmation, koko. Will I be able to "hump" it up or the shape is more or less fixed already?
