Growth Spurt!

Recommended Posts

The past few days when I went to feed Lani & Maddox, I kept thinking to myself - "hmm, they look bigger". I wasn't certain so I decided to get a ruler and wow! it looks like they've grown half an inch over the 7 weeks I've had them. Their length (excluding tail) is now 3.5 inches! Either I measured incorrectly when I first got them (I recorded 3 inches) or they really have had a growth spurt! They were in a tiny tank at the pet store with two other orandas. They've lived in my 29 gallon since I got them and I've tried to feed them the best foods and monitored their water twice daily- did that make the difference? :-)

What's the growth rate of your fishies been like?

It sounds like they are responding to your great care :)

I have had a fish or two grow that fast before, it really is amazing! Others can be given the exact same conditions and not grow as fast, either from stunting before we got them or just from their genes.

I think some photos are in order!

Those are seriously two of the cutest Orandas I've ever seen -- those chubby cheeks are to die for! I'm still so blown away that you found those two beauties at a big chain store. VERY cool!

That tremendous rate of growth means you're doing everything right. You have two very happy fish who are loving having plenty of space, great water quality, excellent food and immaculate care. Lucky fishies!

It is perfectly normal for goldfish to grow very fast when given the proper care. Be proud of yourself. They are fine healthy fish. Your pets well have every advantage.

That's great to hear :-D. Thank you! I'm so attached to these two and really want to give them the best care.

RanchuDressing - I feel the same - I never thought that day that I walked into that large chain pet store I would have found such large and healthy orandas. The salesperson said they had had them in the store for a "long time" but we're "too big" for their customers. Seeing them I was immediately reminded of my two dogs, Lana & Madison (hence the similar names :) ). Orandas have been known to be described as the "puppy dogs" of the fish world right? This is Lana & Madison that inspired Lani & Maddox's names ...

Thanks! We had a get together at our place last weekend where our friends saw our fishies for the first time. They were surprised at their size and some asked "Are they meant to be that fat?" lol. One person actually commented "They kind of have the same faces as your dogs!" Hehe, so it's not just me :-).
