How Can You Tell If A Comet Is A Male Or Female

Same way as the Fancys......Tubercals on the pectoral fins and gill plates and the females will be a little rounder in the body. :)

cool... but i remember someone mentioning that if there was something protruding from the anal port that it would be female. I dont remember what board i read this from, is this true?

Sigh! I don't see much of a difference :D

What exactly do you look for with the anus? Please don't say the common thing people say.. I mean like.. Looking at that picture, what's what?

See the fish on the right. The butt hole has more of a whiteness to it this is the female.

The one on the left is the male.

Females have an anus that sticks out a little.

The males are more smaller and nothing really sticks out.

Females anal fins are thicker

males are more thiner

So then the inside of the anus on both fish is white in color? And since the female's sticks out more, you see the white?

Is this harder to tell in white goldfish?

Not really you see a little "nipple" on the white fish. Its like a inny belly button and an outy.

The females are the outy

The males are the inny :lol

You read it in this board Alphasonic...

It is easier to see the convex vs concave shapes of the vent when looking at the fish from the side. From the picture above you should see that the females vent is wider.

i would just look to see if it had any petrusion, it is also easier if the fish is a bit bigger :rolleyes:
