What Is A Goldfish's Natural Habitat?

Recommended Posts

Are they from fast moving streams and rivers or from lakes and ponds? I am wondering because I have been reading that if you know a fish's natural environment, it helps with knowing how to keep their tanks.

I think goldfish come from lakes and ponds since they don't like a lot of current in the water. But streams and rivers have a lot more oxygen which they also require. Anyone know?

Thanks.

Fancy goldfish as we now them today don't exist in the wild, similar to canaries or chihuahas I suppose.

The wild carp ancestors though live in large rivers, lakes and slow streams in China. So there's enough current to sweep away all their wastes and bring fresh water in, which I think is why constant water changes are a necessity for goldfish.
