Are airstones just bubbles? Does anyone recommend them?

Airstones are usually made out of a ceramic or a pressed sandstone material, sometimes a plastic-like material. They produce bubbles when connected to an air pump. I would recommend them because they aid in water circulation and make it easier for the water to absorb oxygen

Are those the ones that are placed under the gravel so bubbles come up from underneath?

Yep those are the one.

My goldies love them. They are always swimming in it and sticking their faces into the bubbles. :D

You can even put airstones in or around decorations to create an underwater waterfall effect!

Or in this case an air-upfall effect...?
