All Moor 55 Gallon Tank

Recommended Posts

I promised myself yesterday no more fish, and what do I do? :newfish

Barthalamue (Balthazar for short) was the BIGGEST Moor in this shop, big as my hand, for only $16. He's got some wierd ickly green boogery thing on either side of his chin, I put some salt in to hopefully kill it off or at least keep it from spreading since I can't QT.

:D Heya Tam,Congrats on your big boy! I am a little concerned about the green stuff though.. Is it a circular thing,or actually some sort of goo?

Wow! He is gorgeous! CONGRATS! :newfish

Hope the green goes goes away with salt... or something!

(I tried Maracyn Plus lately for a similar lesion on my Betta and it was great - it is liquid - very easy... just a thought if the salt is not working - but diagnose first -

Looks pyogenic therefore bacterial... Hope he gets better with your good WQ and TLC)!

Love the name(s)! :heart

I sure do, hands down my favourites of all time. :heart

Devs the green icky is circular yes, I think it's bacterial hence why I hope the salt will do it. I won't be here all next week cause I'm volunteering to staff for an outdoor education trip but my mom has a list of things to do incase anything goes wrong. I've never seen anything like this before it looks nasty, like an aquatic booger. He's acting very normal but it still urks me.

Did a 75% water change for the week so maybe it'll clear up with that?

Your moor is ridiculously large! I like that! He looks beautiful despite his green spots. At an animal expo I once saw a moor that was the size of a large orange and that was just the body. I wanted to steal it but it obviously would not fit in my pocket...hehehehe....

He's beautiful Tam :heart

I'm with Devs and LMF - just double check whether the green thing is part of his skin or whether it's fish lice.

If it's a greenish disc - then it may well be.

Is there any chance of a closer pic? It's a bit concerning

Here's a pic of lice

WOW TAM that is one handsome looking fish. Love the look on his face. Looks like a wise old man saying 'HMMMMMMMMMM'.

That green thing certainly looks like the lice. ACK. Keep us posted on the outcome of the greenage. Look closely at the green thing. If it looks like there are 2 black specs like eyes at one end... it's probably a fish lice.

Here's another example

Hi Tam, what a great fish and a great buy, congratulations.

Fortunately, I don't think you've got lice there. They are horrible and real killers. It looks to me like algae or saprogenia (sp?) growth over a minor wound or bacterial infection. Those spots are often found in pond or outdoor environments.

Yes, I would definately salt at .3% which is 3 teaspoons per gallon. Salt kills sap and helps heal wounds. If this doesn't work within 5 days I would move onto an antibacterial water medication. Good luck.

Annette, perhaps you should keep an eye out for Tam on this one as you know more about it? that would make me feel better too.

Tam.. can you get a close up of the green spot? And you said it's on either side of his chin? 2 places then?

Jen and Barbra they are great pictures of lice. Ooooh, how I hate them.

Yes Tam, have a real close look to make sure they are not lice. As Barbra said it is easy to see their eyes.

Your new fishy is soo cute he looks like Alfred Hitchcock to me for some reason I think it's the expression on his face. I hope he gets rid of his chin booger.

Woo, I've been gone all week, and there is some bad news and some good news. Good news first, I figured out what the green thing(s) are, bad news, they're lice alright. They've moved from gills to head and tail. Worse news, I tried to suction them off and ended up clipping poor Balth in the butt and on his eye, :( he's got a small bruise but boy, I feel stupid for doing that without thinking of consequences. I'm gonna go get an anti-bacterial med tomorrow but one question, can I isolate him and pick those lice off with tweezers first?

Fish lice

Here is a link to a thread where Toothless recommends picking off all the lice you can and then treating with Jungle Parasite Clear.

Glad to see your tank full of fish again! :D
