Help needed with a floater

I

Hi, folks.  Need some ideas for Rosie. She's a Ryukin (but not great quality lol) I got from Petsmart like six or seven years ago. She made it through fish-in cycling with me and two moves of house, but she's not doing well. Floating at the top with her back sticking out.  She CAN swim down and does occasionally to scavenge at the bottom and she always remains oriented correctly, but she pops right back up to the top when she stops swimming actively. Will upload a video shortly.  Just filled up my QT tank which is a 40B so that's ready if I need it.  She also is blind, I am pretty sure (not a recent development and unrelated) but earlier I was looking at her (maybe paranoid lol) and thought it looked like around her eyes was swollen/pop eye??

      • * Water temperature?  I don't know. Room temp, no heater, AC set at 70.

      • * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Penn Plax Cascade 1200 and AquaClear 110 both w/ extra Biomax.

  •  * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? No

I have learned from the help of Sharon, That some goldfish just can't deal with tall tanks. Im thinking this fish is one of them.

What I would do for now is get a shallow container with a sponge filter put the little in there. Then I would also get some Duckweed. Feed this to him only for about a week. It should help fix this. If so then this fish would need to be in a shallow tank as the fish can't adjust the swim bladder enough for a tall tank. :(

One question for you how often do you change the water out of the filters?

Hmm. Okay, I will try that. So in a 40B, what, like half full?  I'll have to find some duckweed.

Regarding your question - I clean out the filters every 5th or 6th water change. I don't really keep track, Just when I'm like oh, I haven't done that in a while. So that includes emptying out the water.

By the way, today she looks a little better.  She's at least keeping her whole self in the water lol.

You could do that or a rubbermaid container :)

I would just dump your water out of your filters everytime you do a water change. Doesnt mean you need to clean the media (only of its dirty) just dump the water out. :) I dump mine out every water change :)
