Goldfish losing his scales?

4 posts in this topic

Hi,

i have 2 goldfish, 1 normal goldfish and 1 lemon goldfish. I have recently got a new 48L aquarium. After a couple of days, my goldfish starting losing his scales and going white. I looked online and it said it might be that he was rubbing on the new decorations. He has since lost most of the scales and is gasping at the surface of the water. I'm quite worried. I have separated him from the other one. Can someone advise what might be wrong and how I best fix it?

:hi and :welcome

The first problem here is the tank is way to small for even one goldfish. Goldfish need at least 20 gallons per fish and a filtration rate of 10X an hour. :)

It looks and sounds like this fish has flukes.

Have you ever praized these fish?

Please read our guidelines for healthy goldfish.   Unless you have been doing large daily water changes, your fish probably suffer from ammonia poisoning, and weakened by that have also been attacked by pathogens and parasites.
