So I bought this stand from amazon for my 55 gal tank and mom is saying it's not sturdy enough to hold all that weight, so we want to buy wood to put on the top to close the holes.

Should the wood that is sitting on the top be a little bit longer than the stand?

How thick? And what it the best kind that won't break? And would the tank slip or does it look pretty solid?

Thank you!

That stand is very sturdy, but you need to make sure those front long braces are level. I had one and it wasn't and it cracked my tank. So make sure there level. If you use ply wood on top I would cut to to the same shape as the stand.

I agree with Koko!!...also it helps to put a layer of polystyrene ontop of the plywood....it absorbs any uneven parts!!.:-)

As the others have said, it's fine. Open holes don't really matter with glass tanks, you just need to support the edges of the tank. :)
