So my tank has been empty for two months while I was on vacation, and I just came back and saw that some kind it is covered with some kind of algae maybe ??? How can I get it cleaned before I bring back my fish? Would vinegar help?

Thanks!

Would you recommend cleaning a filter this way too (the media is removed of course)

Glass and plastic clean differently.  Why clean residue off filters?

yeah I would be worried the plastic would absorb the stuff into it.

I just clean my filters with some plan vinegar when I need to clean them :)

Good idea.... I already tried to clean one of my filters w that powder before I read this and now I'm paranoid would it be okay if I maybe let the filter soak in water now
