Wiggles Eggbert the lone fry!

60 posts in this topic

Yikes!  My butterfly tellies spawned on the 12th! ? they laid lots of eggs but i only managed to save 25.  They are still babies under 2inches Std length so i wasnt expecting this!

The mum is Perdy the long finned tricolour butterfly tellie.

The dads are either Jaffa the black butterfly tellie...

Or Pumpkin the orange butterfly tellie.

On the 13th I realised only one egg was fertilized so transfered it to a small tank with clean water and a slow airstone. I added a drop of methylene blue to the water to ward of fungus... and watched as he wiggled in his egg!

He hatched on the 14th at 2.30pm.  I got to see him hatch!  Yay! So far so good.

On the 15th and 16th he did very little. Moved only twice in that time. I added some powdered NLS Thera A+ and ordered him some fry food.

Today is the 17th and he is moved a little more this afternoon. I dont know if he is eating or not yet, but after giving him a 50% WC tonight and adding a drop of methylene blue and prime again i gave him another dusting of powdered food. Ill see if I can find him some more appropriate food tomorrow while I wait for his food to be delivered. Here is him today!

We will wait and see how he goes! He is my first ever goldfish fry and im both excited and scared...

Thankyou Taryl!

Today he is moving all about and i can see his tummy has food in it.

I have scooped him out in a cup and cleaned his tank, fresh water with prime and methylene blue drop and a sprinkle of new food.  Im giving him crushed New Life Spectrum Thera A+ pelets atm as im waiting for his baby food to arrive.... hurry up Mr Postman!  One sprinkle involves dipping the tip of my little finger in the powder and whatever sticls is his sprinkle.  Im doing this twice a day as to measure out food for just one meal for him is impossible.  This way he has food avaliable 24/7 and he can find it easily. He is having 100% daily waterchanges and prime to help with water quality.

Does this sound ok?

Today  Wiggles Eggbert as hubby is calling him is 5 days old.

He has eyes that move!

He has pectoral fins!

20170419_232153_zpsore8ceaw.jpg

He has a swim bladder, poop dispensing capabilities and freckles!

He has tonight had his daily 100% wc, prime and spot of methylene blue. He seems to prefer some of the only fry food they had at the local pet shop... it was in a little takeaway container so i have nooo idea what it is or what is in it ... so this is his dinner till his baby food arrives... he doesnt seem to eat the NLS TheraA+ I crushed for him.  Hurry uuuup Mr Postman!  Pleeeeease!

Just a thought... does anyone know if raising a fry on his own reduces his fishie interaction skills? Will he be socially inept when i put him with other fish one day? :help:
