Any one have experience with a Fluval 306?

Recommended Posts

Hey every one!

Filter maintenance question today. So I have a fluval 306 canister on my 55 gal. It's been awesome ever since I set it up about 9 months ago. This last week I took it apart and cleaned it out during a water change. Didn't do anything different than I usually do and ever since that cleaning day, it has been so freakin' loud! Sometimes it rattles for a bit after I do any maintenance on it or change any of the media, so I usually give it a day or two to settle itself but the loudness didn't stop this time so I took it apart again to make sure I put was everything in place properly and it's still doing it! Has any one else had this problem? Or does it sound like it she about time to replace a part?

Any advice would be much oblidged!!

Thank you

You made sure there isn't anything in the Motor (peller) area? Is all the hoses snug on there? Air or debris can make the filters sound very bad :( Check that out first hun :)

I would also make sure your intake pipe is fully connected to the hose and that there isn't any space or air escaping. My Fluval 306 has been running for 2.5 years and when it makes noises like that it's usually from not enough suction to get water to the canister. The other times when it made a loud noise is when I accidentally put the cap from the underside of the motor on incorrectly. You can actually put it on incorrectly and still have it fit snugly, which will cause a loud rumbling noise.

Thank you! I will check on that immediately!

Happened to me on my 405, turned out I put the cover for the impeller housing the wrong way. Costly mistake because the blades hit protruding parts on said cover and I lost a couple of blades. Hope this is not your case. Rattling noise means your impeller is hitting something.
