Goldfish disease pls help

6 posts in this topic

Hi..One of my black telescope goldfish got white spots all over her..And even other would mysteriously develop cuts over night...I started treating for ich with heat and salt..The spots are gone but still continuing the treatment for some more days..Now the fish suffers from fin rot..I took a slime sample of a fish which has been flashing...And I saw this under the microscope.. guess it's ich but wasn't moving so presumably dead...If any one can pls identify the pic and account for the sudden fin rot

hello and welcome to kokos. i must say, that microscope photo does not look like Ich. Ich looks more like a C shape. your picture to me resembles an air bubble in the sample. a video if at all possible of your microscope sample may (not always), but may have been more helpful.

that said, a video of your fish and concentrating on their concerned areas will also be of great help. whilst your video is uploading, please copy and paste the following questionnaire in your next reply and provide the answers to each question. this way, we will have a better understanding of what could be wrong with your fish and make more accurate suggestions on how to help you resolve the issues.

Please copy & paste fill the following form and fill it out to the best of your ability when requesting help for Goldfish Problems:

  • Test Results for the Following:
    • * Ammonia Level(Tank)
    • * Nitrite Level(Tank)
    • * Nitrate level(Tank)
    • * Ammonia Level(Tap)
    • * Nitrite Level(Tap)
    • * Nitrate level(Tap)
    • * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)
    • * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)
    • Other Required Info:
      • * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops?
      • * Water temperature?
      • * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running?
      • * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)?
      • * How often do you change the water and how much?
  • * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change?
  • * How many fish in the tank and their size?
  • * What kind of water additives or conditioners?
  • * What do you feed your fish and how often?
  • * Any new fish added to the tank?
  • * Any medications added to the tank?
  • * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment.
  • * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus?
  • * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.?

Welcome!  Definitely fill out the form as Helen requested.  Not only does it help us eliminate certain possible issues by tank conditions/exposure, it also informs us what kinds of treatment we can use based on the water chemistry and the treatment history of the fish.  Diet, tankmates, temp, even aquatic plants all have an impact and we need to know before we can help.

Good closeup pictures of the animal as well as a full tank shot are also extremely helpful.

Ammonia Level(Tank) :0
● * Nitrite Level(Tank) :0
● * Nitrate level(Tank) :5ppm
● * Ammonia Level(Tap)
● * Nitrite Level(Tap)
● * Nitrate level(Tap)
● * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) :7.2
● * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)
● Other Required Info:
● * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API,strips
● * Water temperature? Was treating ich so was 30°C until yesterday...Tday it's 26°C
● * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 95 gal, around 4 years
● * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? No idea
● * How often do you change the water and how much? Generally once a fortnight (30%) and once a month(80%)

● * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Was treating ich do fr a few days frequency was 30% every two days.Last time..Yesterday(30%)
● * How many fish in the tank and their size? 13 goldfish+1 tetra largest one is 10cm smallest one is 3cm
● * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Every time I change, a dechlorinator, anti fungal, anti bacterial and anti parasitic...Few drops
● * What do you feed your fish and how often? Pellets, twice a day...Sometime steamed peas...Not the shell
● * Any new fish added to the tank? Yes
● * Any medications added to the tank? Aquarium salt
● * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. For this fish...This is it's second d disease immediately after ich...Others have had fin rot, dropsy and swim bladder disease before which I had successfully treated except dropsy..I treat them in a separate hospital tank so this tank has no medications except the ones mentioned in the previous question
● * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Frayed fins(fin rot), had grains of salt...Treated ich with heat and salt nw no more
● * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.?  that fish usually hides behind the filter, it comes for food and can swim properly, think it's being bullied, and another one jus sits at the bottom, but eats when given
I'll try to include a pic...fin rot has gone pretty advanced
My conclusion is that the high temp I set for ich stressed out the fish and it got fin rot..It should be getting better now that I have reduced it
Would love to hear ur opinion
And if it is fin rot..Tell me how good is salt bath for it pls

How big are these fish. Reason I ask is the tank size seems to be on the small side. We suggest 20 gallons per fish :)

● * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Every time I change, a dechlorinator, anti fungal, anti bacterial and anti parasitic...Few drops

when doing a water change I would suggest only adding the Dechorinator and not all the other stuff as this can cause issues in the tank water and the fish :)

so none of these fish have had a Prazi treatment?
