I'd get a 40B before I'd get that tank . . .  It's shorter in height but the depth (front to back) is 18" vs 13".  And if you put in the dimensions of a 40B into a volume calculator, it actually holds more like 45-47 gallons depending on which calculator you use . . .  They are 36" wide also.

I agree with Lisa.  I'd go so far as to prefer to keep them in the 30 gallon (with doubled water changes) over the 45.  We respond to a stream of sick fish threads from some of those who keep their fish in too-tall tanks with little swimming space.

Oooo, I see. I'd love to get one with a stand! Let me see if I can find anything... do you have a specific brand in mind?

Do you mean something like this?: https://www.petsmart.com/fish/supplies/aquariums-and-stands/aquarium-stands/-top-fin-aquarium-stand-5203446.html?gclid=CMj6hcXTu9ICFRAHhgodWwwGVw&lsft=utm_source%3Agoogle%2Cutm_term%3A5203446%2Cutm_medium%3APLA%2Cutm_content%3AGSC - NonBrand - Specialty - Fish | Supplies - Aquariums

That one doesn't have the right dimensions for a 40B.  This is the one I have:

Do you have a link to a good 40 gallon with the right deminitions? That is a NICE stand.

I would like to do at least a 40 if it is the right deminions. I can do anything you guys recommend up to 39" in width.

40gallon breeder? Is there one that comes with a lid and light?

Yes, the 40 breeder.  It's 36 wide X 18 deep X 20ish high?...

There isn't one that comes with a lid and light that I know of.   :idont  I've always gotten mine at Petco's dollar per gallon sale, tank only.

Do you add a light and lid to your own?

Why do you want a lid?

I don't mean that as opposing a lid.

Did you post a link? I can't see it. Haha

I need a light too because I have plants.

That's why I loved the 45g because it came as a set with a lid and light and stand! But I obviously want to do what is best for the fish, I just wish I could get a kit in a 40.

You might consider a screen lid.  This allows gas exchange which is limited by a glass lid.

Thoughts on either of these?

http://www.petsmart.com/fish/supplies/aquariums-and-stands/top-fin-40-gallon-hooded-aquarium-17608.html?cgid=300013 - seems to have similar parameters!

Sorry I was gone all day yesterday.

Either of those would be fine.  The second one you linked is acrylic which does scratch more easily than glass . . . .
