Well here I am again :(

Recommended Posts

My awesome fish isn't as active as he used to be... he's been lurking on the bottom often but is active during feeding. He visually looks the same to me but maybe there is something you guys can see that I can't.

If you can't copy and paste the form Mandy gave you into your reply, you can quote her post and then fillout the form.

In your third picture, I see something that looks like the tip of an arrow coming out of one scale.  I think I see the same thing in the reflection in the first picture.  Would you check to see if this is real?

What medications do you have one hand?  We would like to treat this fish with metronidazole and either oxytetracycline or kanamycin.  We think the fish is bloating.  For that get epsom salt which you can find in the drug store.

Do you have a 10 gallon tank or tub for treatment?

Okay, let's get him into a 10 gallon QT with 1/2 tsp of Epsom salt.

Is there a local mom and pop pet store around where you can see if they have metronidazole (Seachem Metroplex)? Chain pet stores don't generally carry it which is why it has to be a mom and pop shop.

I just purchased the metroplex from amazon. Will be here in 2 days. Would kanaplex do me any good? Also I can't remember correctly but what temp should the QT be at?

Should I only feed peas while in QT?

Thanks

You can start the kanaplex along with the epsom salt.  You can add the metro when you get it.  The QT should be at room temperature unless you have been keeping your fish at a different temperature.

Feed normally, but lightly.

Finally able to get him in QT. He's all messed up and can hardly swim... https://vimeo.com/197725322

Think he's gonna make it? Should I be feeding him medicated food?

Thanks

is the kanaplex and Epsom dosed? I would not feed him any medicated food before checking with a mod. What food is it and what are the medications in it?

I've seen fish in worse conditions come back. All fish are different though and there is no saying which ones will bounce back and which ones won't. It's a grueling waiting game, and believe me when I say this, we all have been there and it sucks. :bighug

I've only dosed the epsom salt 1/2 teaspoon, and the seachem kanaplex so far. I do not have medicated food at the moment but will buy if needed.

His condition seems worst today.. I can start to see the pineconing and he can't swim upright most of the time.

The container keeps him from being pushed around in circles . Water temp is at 74 degrees. Should I be raising it to 78?

Thanks

I would leave it at 74 and add hope the metro gets there soon so we can start that in addition with the kanaplex.

No, they want you to use the metro in conjunction with the kanaplex, so add both when you do the water change Edited by Mikey
