coloration question

Recommended Posts

I'm still new to goldfish and curious about:

What you call the color of the oranda?

Is this a stable color? Or will the fish likely change/gain/loose color(s)?

I am not certain the name, some people call black and white "Panda" and I know for sure that black is often lost sadly as time goes on. But beautiful fish!! :D

Don't know of an industry name, but I call it dalmatian.  I've seen a few (white fish with black spots, no orange) and I REALLY want either a ranchu or ryukin dalmatian colored fish.

Color depends on genetics.  I've heard that diet, water conditions, and lighting can impact color as well.

My opinion on his coloration is that the black would stay.  Both calico fish I've owned ended up getting more/deeper black as they got older.  This guy looks like a calico with no red... but it's just my opinion.

This fish has nacreous scales.  You see the metallic scales looking like sequins against a background of non reflective matt scales.  So this fish has an unusual kind of calico coloration.  Calico colors seem less likely to fade away with age.  I agree with Bmitchell that the black may stay.  Maybe you could call it a lemon calico.

edit:  This fish looks similar and was called a  calico lemon-headed oranda.

I looked at that one. :) And I agree on less likely to lose its color. Not impossible but I think the only one that is impossible is a solid white fish lol.
