I think im in shock!

This is quite sad but Goldy died yesturday and it was so sudden I cant quite get my head around it.

Charlie my son was quite upset and it brought back memories of Blacky when he died which was charlies "best fish ever".

He was bottom sitting that night and i remember thinking I'd do a water change the next morning. Well the next morning poor Goldy was bottom lying with his mouth open not breathing :doh11: and I felt terrible, but it was just too late the night before to be doing water changes etc.

I had been concerned about the sand/fine gravel that I'd added to the tank a while back.

Anyway i just dont know what happend.

Now the tank has had a huge clean out, no gravel now and i cleaned the canister too just in case there was build up there, it has been a while since Ive cleaned the canister  .

Poor Goldy, I actually thought he was my toughest fish!

The other two guys Speckles and Mr. Blacky Huge Eyes seem fine and are super happy about the over haul. Maybe I got complacent...

I think I might do a prazi ing as a precaution, thoughts?

RIP Goldy :cry1

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure cleaning the canister has helped the water quality. When was the last time you did a prazi treatment?

A round of prazi wouldn't hurt.  I have HOB filters and I clean them out every week (rinse sponges, replace fine filter pad). I understand that cleaning out a canister filter is more involved.

Yeah I think so too otherwise ill be wondering and it cant hurt i guess. Last time I only did a double round maybe ill do the 6 round to be sure?

:yikes time to start a regular canister clean...every 2 weeks i think would be fair :I-Thank-You:

It's so heartbreaking when we lose our fish, especially when it happens so suddenly. Wishing you, your son and your goldfish all the best!
