Start cycle over?

Recommended Posts

Sounds good. My wife wants me to wait until she gets home to put the fish in together. She feels a little left out I think, because I'm doing everything. I will test the 40b for everything in a bit after the bubba eats his lunch.

This was her idea, I've kind of taken the reigns and ran with it because I've wanted fish for awhile but I got told flat out no to cichlids, then last month she decided she wanted goldfish lol

So sweet!!! I went to visit a friend of mine who has a little girl. I showed her videos of my goldfish. She pointed to them and said "Feeshy, Feeshy!" She loved looking at them. Soon after her mom and dad watched Finding Nemo with her. She pointed to Nemo and said "Feeshy, Feeshy!" Then when Nemo's mom died, the little girl cried and cried. Mom and Dad has to rewind the video to show that the mom was still alive. Needless to say they couldn't watch the rest of the movie.

When I used to watch Nemo with the kids, I'd skip the part where the mom dies . . .. :teehee  It's much happier that way.  :rofl2

If ammonia and nitrite are so low, do you still want him doing daily WCs?  :idont

Yes, 5 gallons a day.  We want to keep it that low.

2/25/16 Test

pH:

Ammonia:

Nitrite:

Nitrate:

IMG_4610_zpseofjjf7g.jpg

On the slate for tonight, another 5 gallon WC with a 1/2 tsp dose of salt, and a 5 gallon dose of prime.

Not for any reason other than I'm curious, but how long do I need to continue these 5 gallon water changes? Is the lack of nitrates ok? There's still a little bit of ammonia present is that ok?

The fishies seem to be happy! They do sleep in one corner of the tank together, but I think it's because that corner doesn't have much current. They like to swim around and ride the currents during the day. What should I be looking for that would be alarming?

Keep doing those changes as recommended. You have a high pH and ammonia is more toxic at high pH levels. As long as you have an ammonia reading that means the bacteria will keep expanding in numbers so the cycle is proceeding in the right direction.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes but you may be able to speed up the process by adding a little heat and more oxygen to the water if you haven't already done so.

I'm not putting in a heater. I have an air stone I can add if it's necessary.
