Two in the house for winter

27 posts in this topic

I bought 2 tiny goldfish late 2014 winter. They were smaller than a quarter in body size and were in the tank for a bit until my koi pond heated up.

I just caught both, they were in the bucket for a few days warming up, then moved to the 75 gallon tank, which I had turned the heater off to. Now the heater is back on. Pond is 40, house water is 50, tank with no heater is 60 and tank with heater is 70-74, so it was a massive temp difference, thus all the special precautions.

I have added these fish before, but never made it large enough to survive winter. These two are large, but I am too paranoid about them. The black and red has been out for 2-3 winters now, so she/he will be fine.

Posted a picture of the older goldfish when it was smaller, it's now as big as my fist, named it Cupcake. Then a picture of the two at their still fairly small size, but day of their big move into the pond. Then a few of their transfer. Red is a Ryukin named Magikarp, white and red is a Fantail named Goldeen. Magikarp is quite friendly and lets me pet it when I clean the tank. Both warmed up to be just a day after capture, it was really cool to see them hand feed and come right up to me, even though in the pond, they avoid me. =)

Anyone else winter over fish in the house?

Quick flash pics. Needed them for the drawings I'm doing, they didn't mind, though.

Thought I'd update, since in another month or so, they will be going back into the pond.

There's a new filter on the tank, others were broken in one way or another, so used that as an excuse to get a big ol filter. Now I have an FX5 & a FX6, one on each 75g tank.

Also have a new heater on this tank, old one messed up and tried to cook my fish! =0

I  don't know about this tank.  Maybe you should add a few plants.   :rofl3

How about a picture of the whole pond?

I find it so funny that I struggle to get fish into a bucket to move them.  Then when I get them to the pond they will go into, they don't want to leave the bucket.  I see yours do the same thing. :D

I can't change my password, it won't let me because of random errors that aren't true. Then I keep forgetting my info, since this forum uses a different name for the UN instead of the signup one and then randomly Facebook link-through will work, but not always. Gahh!!

It's somehow working through my phone, so for now, I can take my time getting it to work on my pc.

Red one was spotted today!

But I have to link pictures, can't just upload them, so will have to stop by later to link them.
