Water Temp -fish shock?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Looking for some advice. We just brought home some new fish last week and it's technically time to change the water. There were three smaller fish in a 55 gallon tank. One died this AM. My son REALLY wanted him at the store but I wasn't too sure, but caved. He ended up with swim bladder issues. I fed them NLS in the AM and Repashy in the afternoon and pm. He started to float on day 2 so I switched to peas he was worse each day. I stopped feeding but it didn't seem to help. :-(   The other two look great and seem content. My big question is, I had raised to water temp to help the little one before he died. We are in a home where the only tap that works with my python is outside. The water is COLD (tank temp 71.5/ tap temp 63.6). I really don't want to shock the other two fish. The parameters are OK. Do I leave them longer and let them settle in? Do I do smaller water changes more frequently so that the temp change isn't so drastic?

A 50% change would only be 4 degrees different so they will be fine.

Thanks. I didn't think to figure it out that way.
