Can pond fertiliser tabs be used in pieces

5 posts in this topic

I was wondering if the slow release of the pond tabs is reduced when they are Broken up?

Hi, I wouldn't think it slows down the release, just the amount of nutrients distributed.

So I might break one in half if I had a smaller container of lilies that didn't require a whole one, or wanted to distribute the pieces around the perimeter of the planting container.

Oh yes, sorry I mean does the piece breakdown quicker and "ruin" the slow release properties

Thanks

In general, no.  There are temperature-activated spikes, and compressed slow-release fertilizer tabs which dissolve over time into the wet soil surrounding the plant's roots and others. Usually the components are so small that breaking a spike or tablet does not effect the release timing.
