Just one of those days.

Recommended Posts

Since I've been having tannin troubles of late...IMG_1529_zpsggwydw8w.jpg

I decided to  rig up a small carbon filter with a power head, plastic bottle and a filter bag to help speed up the clearing. In spite of several minutes of rinsing the carbon, as soon as I turned on the filter, it spat out a huge puff of black water. So now I not only have brown aquarium water, I have a cloudy one too.

Like the title says. Just one of those days. :/

Ugh carbon filters. I know about the benefits.

It helps if you rinse the media beforehand. I had to stop using them because it seemed to raise my pH to crazy levels. Now I use neutral media that I squeeze-clean in the water I'm changing out.

Someone's pretty is another person's ugly.  :)

I just don't like the yellow tint it gives everything. It really doesn't look healthy to have a urine colored aquarium. :)

Light should go on shortly, and we'll see if the murk has cleared any overnight.

Mysterygirl - Oh I rinsed the heck out of it, until I eventually decided that the stuff just wasn't going to come clear.

Waters looking a lot clearer today. Hooray!

The polyester floss I added to the filter though is looking a lot greyer. :)

And nothing like a 50% water change to really knock them down.
