Naming of Your Goldies

Recommended Posts

Do you ever "RECYCLE" goldie names??  By this I mean you get a new goldfish & reuse a name of a past goldfish?

Right now I have my Red & White goldie is named Zoey..................I have used that name in the past!! :fishtank

I probably will one day.  :hummm Gumdrop is a perfect baby chu name, after all. ;)

~~~~~~~~~
If my daughter has a daughter one day, she wants to name it Lola after my heartdog(avatar) But, her husband thinks it's too slutty. :lol2
Funny, I would never consider naming a future pup after one of my previous dogs, but a  grandbaby? :idont
Nope, It just doesn't seem to fit right to me to reuse a name from a previous pet that I have had in the past. I pick names that have a special meaning that makes that pet unique so it doesn't work out for any other pet that needs a name. They would need their own special name for their unique specialness ;)
But you gave me an idea in your post......I may recycle your word "Recycle" to be a new fish name to fit into my name theme LOL :teehee
The goldfish to name
The goldfish to name is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a fish must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the kids will use daily,
Such as Goldie, McLovin, Da Fishi or James,
Such as Amber or Magicarp, Spike or just Haley--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
The kind for the fishies whose photos you’d frame:
Such as Wiggles or Skeletor, Blinky, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a fish needs a name that's peculiar,
A name that's specific, and more dignified,
For how else can he keep his long tail horizontal?
Or freak-flag the dorsal, and cherish her pride?
The names of this kind are right here in this forum:
Such as Tricycle, Wax On, or Calicofish,
Such as Pretty No Eyes, or (please don’t!) Jellylorum- -
Names that never belong to more than one fish.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE FISH ONLY KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a fish in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is not just it’s mood:
Their mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, and location, and taste of some food
chewable, sinkable
floatable, eat-able
Deep and so chew-able scarf-able food.
I was always inventive with goldies names when I was young.  I had ones named dog, budgee, cat etc.  The only one I renamed was the one called cat.  We replaced him/her three times, renaming her cat each time, but each time she died.... after that I de cided I should not inflict that name on another pet.  :no:
MG.... just wow :o:clapping:
I don't think I could reuse the names of any of my current fish.... but there was one, a little bronze lionhead that I had some four years ago. My daughter named him Boomer and I have loved anything with the name ever since. :heart I think that's one I could use, but only if the fish truly IS Boomer.
I have a Post It on the side of my tank with each fish's name/color/date of purchase!!
The goldie I have applied a recycled name just isn't working. I always think of the other fish so I am going to have to rename this fish his/her very own name!!!!!!!!
I haven't reused any names for my fish yet, but my boyfriend named at least a dozen fish at the pet store the same thing back over the winter. I have so many names I like and would like to use one day that I doubt I will ever run out.
I always said I'd name my first ranchu Crumpet, because ranchu's just look like little crumpets. However my first chu died not long after me getting it. When I bought another ranchu he remained nameless for a while, I couldn't think of the right name. Anyway my boyfriend insisted on calling him Crumpet regardless, and so it just kind of stuck. So yes my little chu, Crumpet, is technically Sir Crumpet II, he just prefers his shorter title :lol
On that Nickelodeon show "The Fairly Odd Parents" the two fairy characters were Cosmo and Wanda and they hid that they were fairies by pretending to be goldfish. I SO wanted to have a pair of goldies named that. But alas it did not work out that way. My very first goldfish I named Cosmo. And then my second I named Wanda. Cosmo died not that long after I got him (he choked on a piece of gravel) and Wanda turned out to be a boy and was re-named Waldo... He didn't live that long either (I was still learning about goldfish and how they needed different things from other types of fish at that point). I just couldn't bring myself to name another pair that. I was bummed. :(
I don't exactly re-use names, but I do sometimes use names from another species on a different pet. And, all but one of our fish (Lotus) were named by my (then) 6 & 7 year old kids: Clownie, Dragon, Ghost, & Rainbow Cupcake (I have been informed that I got it wrong, & that particular fish is NOT Rainbow Sprinkles - it's easy to get confused, considering the kids' pet mice are named Sprinkles & Cupcake).
I love the Cats inspired goldfish name poem!
