i have eggs... maybe koi?

15 posts in this topic

i saw the pond fish going after a piece of water hyacinth and i thought hmmm maybe eggs? so i pulled it out and see eggs that are not clear like normal goldfish eggs but rather closer to a rust color? They could not have been there for more than a few hours. I don't want any more goldfish but I'd like to see what happens. Whatcha think?

I think it's very interesting, and vote for seeing what happens with these eggs. May be they are hybrids.

It does appear to be more similar to koi egg colors

Momo (the smaller oranda) layed lots of rusty eggs so it could be a toss up.

Speaking from experience :rofl my one fertilized egg that turned into Waldo was orangish rusty colored. I figured it was a goner but left it alone and he hatched a couple days later. :idont

I think it's time to dig another pond, Jason.

(In my backyard. :rofl)

That's really interesting. I have only ever seen clear eggs. I wonder what they difference is.

It's possible. :rofl

I'm quite envious of Michigan waters for fish. :)

Looks like goldfish fry to me. I couldn't tell from the egg pictures because it was hard to tell how big they were. I don't know squat about koi but my guess would be that their eggs would be bigger than goldfish eggs. Anyway, fertilized goldfish eggs are gold to amber colored so I suppose "rust" is an accurate description. Good luck with them.
