P.S.  I had NO idea your shirt was on backwards!

:teehee

I actually have a shirt that I wear backwards...but not inside out.

I do though, have a top that I frequently wear inside out by accident cos it has those funky visible seams

Update

Every little pooper is fine!  Surprisingly, they don't all hang together. Some like to stay under the lily pads, some like hiding in the underwater plant roots.  I've made sure that they get food sprinkles in both those parts, and I see them eat without the bigger fish harassing or competing with them. They're not ready to feed with the school.

BUT kinda cute: my tiny Valentino and 2 of the small ones feed together. 2 of the little ones are are bonding with the very smallest fish and most timid one in my pond. He seems to know how to catch the live stuff, and they're very interested.

Mustashio and Snake Eyes are pals, Mustashio is the boldest and Snake Eyes follows the lead. The one I call "Sharky" with the black on the dorsal fin is a free agent. Tonight the three of them cowboyed up and fed on the fringes of the school where I feed all of my big fish.

I love to closely observe their changing behavior in a new environment.

Cara is like most supermodels, avoiding the paparazzi deep in the plant roots!

Umm....we're talking not backwards but rather: Visible Inside Out Seams.

Apparently ......no one noticed?

I was appalled. And then relieved.

Microfiche

Q: Why are goldfish like a box of chocolates?

A: 'Cos you never know what you're going to get.

Microfiche is turning white. Here is a photo of her today and a year ago for comparison. She is 180 grams now. She has a little beak like a parrot.

Nice

Greetings - welcome to my floating-world. First a few photos.

Thanks! I teach 4-7 year olds (as a volunteer) not singing! We build with Legos and talk metaphysics.

Valentino

I think he's a he! What do you think, are those breeding stars?

He looks so much like Microfiche.....I think Shinto and Millie produce fry that look like this.

California received a lot of rain over the last 3 weeks. It is a welcomed kick-off to our rainy season.

We've had a 3 year drought, and welcome extra rain.  :Dancing:

I find it odd that my GH and KH values are so disparate, I thought KH was more tied to GH.

API master test kit values:

KH  7

GH  17

PH  8.2

Congrats on the rain!

Kh and gh are usually similar when you have limestone aquifers with your gh (Ca++) and bicarbonate both primarily coming from the lime (CaCO3).

Otherwise they are just separate measures of carbonates/bicarbonate (kh) and minerals (generally Ca and Mg) and will vary based on where your water source flows through.

I have no idea how the drought might have affected your regional water chemistry. With a GH of 17 you must have crazy calcium deposits everywhere though!

Historically I've added Epsom Salts, Baking Soda, and Fresh Trace.  It may be that I'm not removing water fast enough. Occasionally I'll vacuum mulm off the bottom and remove the waste. Of course I change the mechanical filter media often and bio filter too. I add Pond Perfect once a week as a biological aid.

Aw, no

My two Japanese Trapdoor snails are dead. Not sure why - the water conditions should be better than ever afer strong rains.

I kind of suspect my fish?

Poor little guys. I won't get more until I figure out what happened. I had them BOTH for 3 years!

So I ordered 10 more Japanese Trap Door Snails (Viviparus malleatus)....from Aquatic Arts

20161111snails.jpg

They seem like very conscientious sellers, but my word, these are VERY small for $1 each. They are smaller than a popcorn kernal! That algae wafer is the size of a penny. They do add a couple more so I received 12 tiny slow pokes. I think I'll name them after boyracer cars: Fiesta ST, brz, fr-s and the like.

I may buy some full sized ones locally for $2.50 each - which seem literally 50 times the size - bigger than a Black Walnut. RIP Speed Racer!
Long live the new snails.

Viviparus malleatus have never reproduced in my pond, so I'll keep you posted if a few of them actually like each other. They are live bearers. Very busy, but not very social, heh.

These do not look at all like Speed Racer, the Japanese Trap Door snail covered in algae. Reminds me fondly of a Costa Rican Sloth.JapanseTrapdoor.jpg

I may have bought the wrong species. It is so confusing.

Thanks Mandy, but it was a borrowed photo. Just an example of what I thought I was buying when they're full grown.

Here is my Speed Racer,

God rest his little snail being!  I'm not sure what happened to him but it didn't look good.
