small pimple like bump on side

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I've noticed a small bump on the side of my goldfish today. Looks like a pimple. reading prev posts I agree with Helen and Alex that it is some type of bacterial cyst. Just wondering what salt concentration I should add if the cyst does burst.

Tank parameters

Ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 13, ph 7.8, API test kit, 40 gallon tank with 4 fish. 90% water change 1x per week, last done 3 days ago. no new fish no meds, no strange behaviors. Additives i use are Seachem gold buffer and Prime. I have 1250 aqua one canister filter.

Thank for any advice guys.

Vincent

Vincent, after having a look at your fish, i see two areas of concern, 1, the growth on the Lateral line, 2. the growth showing at the lower back.

usually, bacterial cysts show white, these appear to be grey. for the time being, since the fish is behaving normally, i ask that you continue to observe these two spots for any change, until i am able to discuss with the mod team their opinion. i will also check in my books to see if anything resembles these spots.

if they do in the near future look like they're going to burst. at present, they do not. but should they look like they're going to, i recommend that you remove the fish into QT as right now, i am not quite sure what they are.

No problems Helen, thx for the help.

Just some more info regarding the growth on the lower back. It may not show up as much on the photo, but this spot does have a white pimple like structure protruding outwards. The one on the lateral line is however more grey as you have noticed.

I will observe and let you know if anything changes.

Cheers

Vincent
