How do you tell the difference between a male and Female Fish ?

well the males will get breeding spurs on their gill covers and the leading ray of the pectoral fin. The breeding spurs look like little spots of ich.

I sex fish by their anal vent. But this is easier to do on bigger fish. I have trouble on anything smaller than 3.5" because it's just too hard to tell.

Females have a bit of an outie for an anal vent, and males have an innie.

PS. Here is a great description with pictures! http://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/forum/index.php?/page/index.html/_/goldfish-keeping-tips/sexing-goldfish-r339

Very interesting image, and a great way to combine two things you were learning about.

Thanks for all you do, Koko

My Moor only has one anal fin, guess it's just genetics but he seems fine, swims well, suppose he doesn't know he's meant to have two :)
