A single baby

Recommended Posts

The subies already know about this, but Banana and Bullet have decided to spawn. I saw this just before they ate all the eggs and was able to save close to two dozen eggs.

I had thought that Bullet, being only about 8-9 months old, wouldn't be mature enough yet but one of the eggs was actually fertile! The other eggs turned white and fuzzy.

So within the past hour, this one little guy hatched. He is still just laying on the bottom of the betta cup he's in right now, but I just placed a small piece of cabomba in there for him to hide in.

Now I gotta hope that I will get him through. That would be a bit of a miracle, but we will see!

I love that he has a nice straight spine, so there shouldn't be a cause to be culled for severe deformity - hopefully!

Also, see how tiny this guy is compared to the ruler? He is about 1/4" long :)

LOL Jess we need to hook them up with each other :rofl2

Why is yours already fatter than mine??? D: D:

I think the photo was luck. My camera usually sucks, so I was amazed that this turned out quite clear. I did have to use Unsharp Mask 50% in Photoshop though.

Thanks, Dan and Becs!

He is now swimming around a lot more. Whenever I pick his cup up he will dart around for a few seconds, and then go back to the bottom to rest. He is so cute :heart

woohoo! Are you going to feed him tonight or wait until tomorrow? Will they eat when they are still doing a lot of bottom laying like that? (hope you don't mind me asking all these questions :P)

If I remember right, the more active, the higher the chances for eating. I have added a pin head sized piece of S.G. for him to nibble on if he feels like it. I changed most of his water carefully with the turkey baster, and replaced it with water from his parents' tank, which I double dosed with Prime. Tomorrow I will replace the S.G with a new piece. I just don't want him to run out of food. From what I read back then, these tiny guys can starve to death quickly, within a matter of a day. :yikes
