  1. Is worming goldfish something we need to do, like worming every other pet on a monthly basis? I bought Sterazin thinking this might be what id use but I really have no idea what i should use or how regularly
  2. Hi all, I'm taking a trip to Petsmart this weekend and, as always, will stock up on frozen food for all my goldies, but I was wondering if there were any types of live bugs that would be okay to feed them. I'm talking things like waxworms, silkworms, and the like. I think it would be a neat little treat for my goldies to have once in a blue moon (they've already had live flies...when they fall in the tank!) but I wanted to make sure this was safe. Any advice? Obviously I wouldn't be getting anything with a hard exoskeleton, but I've kept lizards in the past so I have a pretty good knowledge of the types of worms/bugs available. Wondering if anyone has tried this! And of course if this has already been discussed, please point me to the thread Thank you!
  3. Good morning! Before I head off to class, I wanted to post something here. I don't have time to fill out the questionnaire right now but will do it later if necessary. When I woke up this morning and went to check on the fish, I saw a type of worm that I had never seen before stuck to the glass of my tank. It was maybe a half inch long, had a sticky tail, and an arrow-shaped head. I remember seeing this before online, but for the life of me can't find out what it is. I stepped away to get my camera for a picture, and when I came back, it was gone. Any thoughts on what this worm might be, and how can I get it (and we must assume....THEM!) out???? Thanks!
  4. I turned my filter off to do my water change. When I went to turn it back on when I was done tons of tiny wriggling brown worms shot out of my filter all over the tank. I was horrified. Obviously my fish started eating them which caused me to walk away from disgust. I just wanna know if these are harmful or not. I started treating my fish for flukes today. Those couldn't be worms related to flukes could they? I wont be able to get any pictures because they are too small.

I have been salting the tank ever to every other water change. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Regarding my black moor, I have noticed for a while a small fleshy nub on his anus. I have tired googling it with no results. I think it may be a worm but would like advice. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc. No unsual behavior. As mentioned this is a question about my black moor and his bum. I have noticed this nub on his anus for months now and figured I would just keep an eye on it to see if there is any change in his behavior or the size of the nub. I havent notice any change besides the fact that my black moor doesn't seem to be rounding in his belly. I hand feed mostly, and when I do pellets I make sure he gets his share. My Oranda and Ranchu have been showing the typical fancy goldfish round stomach but my blackmoor to me has always looked thin. It never bothered me until my brother, who knows nothing of fish, said "Hey, this guy looks a bit skinny" and thats when i really started to worry about the guy. So what do you guys think? Is it a worm? Cause that is what I think it is but I didnt want to do any medication/quartine until I was sure. Here are some pictures! Here he is, looking sleek Here is his belly and just bellow his anal fin you can see a peek of the fleshy nub I will work on trying to get better pictures if needed, but till then this is all I got.
  6. I’m not sure if it’s an anchor worm because I’ve had goldfish in the past (5/6 years ago probably) and they’ve had anchor worms so I know what it looks like. But with this I’m confused. In the second photo you can see it right in the center. It’s coming from behind the tail, not on the tail/fin directly, but behind it so it overlaps the fin. Did he just rip his anal fin or something similar? And what can be done about this? Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) * Nitrite Level(Tank) * Nitrate level(Tank) * Ammonia Level(Tap) * Nitrite Level(Tap) * Nitrate level(Tap) * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? * Water temperature? * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? = 26 Gallons, running for a week. * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? 240 GPH * How often do you change the water and how much? Currently once a day at 50% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Yesterday, 50% * How many fish in the tank and their size? 1 Small Ryukin, 3 inches * What kind of water additives or conditioners? None * What do you feed your fish and how often? Goldfish floating pellets (soaked and pressed), once a day * Any new fish added to the tank? No * Any medications added to the tank? No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Sitting at the bottom most of the time. I think mainly due to water because I didn't cycle the tank prior to buying him. But doing water changes daily to keep toxicity levels down.
  7. http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a596/rainia00/photo2_zps4703734f.jpg I'm testing the water now. WHAT the heck are these?? Will Prazi treat them? I just added it. We did a 90% 15 hrs ago and now I came home to this white mass of worms and millions of them floating around my tank. At the moment there's only the bristle nosed pleco in there, but a few weeks ago the new fish was in there until I got my prazi and found another 10gal QT, so I'm wondering if he left some eggs. How long do they take to hatch? Do I need to bleach my filter and my tank out? What do I do? How many rounds of prazi do I need to treat a pleco? This is a never ending nightmare!
  8. Hi guys, I have 3 ryukins and I feed them API Sinking Goldfish Pellets. I want some more options though. I do have Hikari Frozen Bloodworms that I occasionally feed my bettas, so could I feed them those? And I also heard there were some vegetable items I could feed them such as romaine lettuce? How would I prepare that for them? Thanks in advance.
  9. Hi there. I am setting up a 55 gallon tank and getting new fish. My plan was to move Fluffy into it, and qt the new fish (10 White Cloud Mountian Minnows) in the old tank. I was going to salt dip the new fish (bucket to bucket method) and then keep them in salt for one week, then Prazi for 4 weeks. Well last night I discovered that Fluffy has some kind of worms - possibly tapeworm . So I wonder if I should just treat everyone together? What do you think? Should I do this in the 29 gallon (holding 23 gallons of H2O), or in the 55? Water changes will be easier in the 29, and If I treat the tank, I'll hopefully not transfer the parasite over to the new tank when everyone is done with treatment. Your expert advice is greatly appreciated. mj
