  1. Hello! I am new to KoKo's and I've been directed to here by a lot of my friends. My large oranda that I had purchased from Petsmart has great wen growth. But they other day there was this random growth that was hanging off the side of her wen and it was jiggling everywhere, it was red and white. I inspected it then put her back in the regular tank with some aquarium salt. Then 5 minutes later, it was gone! People were suggesting she had hole in the head syndrome, but then the next day the tiny hole filled in with a lot of wen! Now the part looks cottony and white, its weird. I am worried and I do not know hwat it is, please help! I don't know how to add any photos or videos
  2. All levels 0 aside from nitrate - About 20ppm coming out of tap. Ph 7.6 The four smaller fish are new and are showing similar symptoms - some worse, one hardly at all. These have never been in the main tank but are showing the same symptoms as my large ranchu so I have been treating them all together. Had them about a week. I have them all in a 20 g long together and am changing 100% water daily and redosing meds. The large black ranchu is from my main tank and is the only one showing these symptoms out of the fish from the main tank. There is a sponge filter in the qt tank for aeration. It looks sort of like ick, but is almost transparent, and looks sort of like fungus, but isn't really fuzzy. All 5 fish showing clear or green tinted (from duckweed) poops that can be round, or flat. I have been treating with 2x prazi, metro loose in the water, and am going to make some metro gel food as well. Large ranchu beginning to pinecone just slighty, as is the smallest ranchu most effected, but this appears to be more from scale irritation than giving an appearance of dropsy. This fish eat: duckweed/plants, bloodworms, and my big ranchu prevoiusly ate repashy gel food as well. For the first two days I treated with Ich-X too, but it is a very intense med and didn't seem to help much, and with the other two, adds up to a lot of meds in the water. I am really baffled as to what this is and could use the help of experts here - I haven't seen anything like it. The large ranchu has some color loss in one area of her wen - poor circulation? and her depth of color seems to vary a lot over the course of the day, from deep black to "purple." I love all these guys and am at a loss here. Pics to follow.
  3. I've been caring for this little guy for several weeks now, trying to cure him for my sister in law who is busy with a new baby. he had a couple of patches of grey/white on the body & a small amount of tail damage with white edge. the last week it seems to have gotten out of hand & spread & now he has stopped eating. I've mostly had him in up to .3% salt in a 12 litre QT which seemed to do not much at all. I've lost track of water changes & sometimes I didn't have any salt in the water at all to see how he went & if things got better. out of desperation I tried maracyn 2 & maroxy about 2 weeks ago & about 3 days ago I tried multi cure. his appetite has been good up until yesterday. I've just done another large wc & tried to clear everything out of the water at this stage (except the prime of course). i'm afraid i'm losing him & would appreciate any advice. as I said he is in an uncycled QT & I have been doing at least 50 % wc every few days. I don't know if the water params are helpful in this situation but can give them if needed.
  4. Hello! I'm new to this forum and need help with my fish who is not doing well, hopefully some of you will have some tips to help. I have copied the information table below, hopefully this is right, I still need to test for some of the info as I've only just been reunited with Mr Bojangles, my unwell fishy. I had to go abroad for work for 6 months and had to leave my 5 year old black moor with a friend. While I was away he developed swimbladder and can't stay upright. He stays on the bottom of the tank which has caused his side to 'rot'. I feel so bad for him and hope he's not been suffering too much. Any help is much appreciated, I can give more info if needed, just ask. 6. Hello everyone! OK so I basically set up my profile here on Kokos just for help with my situation! Just to warn any of you and I know I might sound like a charity case or a hopeless case or whatever but I'm doing the best I can do, no I can't afford Metromeds or a quarantine tank, water test kits or something like that, but I'm just looking for advice on what I can do, still living within my means! I really do love this site for the kindness of all members and the patient everyone has. Ok, I don't have a water test kit, I don't know any of my levels, and yes I know this is a crucial step but getting one right now just isnt an option and I dont live in the USA to go to Petsmart to get my water checked! I do think though that my water is fine, at least ok for my fish, I've had my 3/5 of my fish for a year now and there hasn't been any water problems, my filter has plenty of beneficial bacteria and I feel like with this issue, my water isn't the case! I am overstocked, at the beginning of my fish journey last december I got 2 comets and regret the decision and I'm finding it hard to find a suitable pond for them and my mom suddenly thinks "they have earned their place in the tank, they are staying!" I will have them in the pond soon, it's my mission! It's a 30 gallon with a black moor, oranda and fantail, and my 2 comets. So my black moor and oranda are constantly at the surface gulping up air especially after feedings (I do water changes weekly, large ones, I promise!) and I'm wondering WHY do they do this and it really upsets me to see them floating afterwards. My black moor goes upside and has done a headstand once and he is my favourite so I really want the best for him, but all my fish deserve the best care I can provide. So that is my swim bladder story and I have no idea why they do this, I have an air stone and my filter provides water movement and little bubbles throughout the water, I do water changes, I feed them peas almost every day, (I need to get back into feeding them pre-soaked flakes) They eat the peas then float I just don't get it, peas are supposed to help with swim bladder issues and it doesnt anymore? Then tonight I noticed on my black moor that he has a white patch around his throat area? Only noticed it tonight, added Fungal & Fin rot medication and will just have to see from there. He has been the subject to fungus before but pulled through and he seems to be the one with the most problems (SBD, fungus) I will attach pictures. With the angle I took the picture it looks raised, it is verrrry slightly, I think I caught it early before it really took shape. Added the medicine, probably have to buy more because it's almost gone. And sorry the quality isn't very good at all Here is the link to my blog for the pics! http://goldfisheaven.blogspot.ie/2013/01/swim-bladder-fungus.html And here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JqQN_QFfiwY&feature=youtu.be I really feel like a train wreck and I'm so sorry to have to do this to my fish and not have the right equipment or space for them but I am trying to do the best I can provide and I feel like that's all I can do. I'm sorry to anyone reading this and probably getting a headache reading this, as more and more problems create. Overall I feel like my tank is not toxic, the water is pretty good, it is not horrifically overstocked, medicine in, big water change tomorrow (it's late), I'm keeping a close eye even though I feel super stressed out. I mean, school is starting for me on Monday and my fish isn't in tip top condition I'm asking anyone with experience to please give me advice and thank you in advance, like I said I can't give you water parameters or go out and buy something expensive, I dont live in the USA so prices are different! Thank you so much!

  8. Hello everybody! This is my first post here. I have one 2" long fantail fish in a 8 gallon tank. His name is Fluffy The tank is fully cycled. Ammonia and nitrites are 0, nitrates prior to regular weekly water change are also close to 0. Ph is 8. On the bottom there is a thin layer of gravel and there is a one floating Anubias Nana plant. Filtration is done by Eheim Ecco pro 130 external canister filter. Aeration is done by a long spray bar that agitates the water. It is placed one inch below water surface and it points upward. The tank is placed few feets from the window that is facing north, so there is no direct sun light. I'm feeding Fluffy sparingly twice a day, the amount he can eat in couple of minutes. I'm feeding him flakes or sticks in the morning, shelled peas in the afternoon. During the day he is eating algae that are growing in the tank. I try not to clean too much of the algae, since they are also a part of a healthy eco system. Fluffy is perfectly healthy and happy, eats well and swims around. But few weeks ago, something strange started to take algae's place. It is growing on plant leaves, on the filter plastic plumbing (inlets and outlets), inside the filter hoses, on the glass thermometer. It grows mostly on glass and plastic, and on the hard Anubias Nana leaves. I can not see any on the gravel, beacuse I have lots of algae on it. It seems that it likes the most the areas with the strongest water flow and near the water surface. So it seems that it likes oxygen? It does not look like any algae that I have seen anywhere, because it is completely white almost translucent. But it also does not fit description of fungus. It is said that fungus forms on food leftovers and/or decaying organic materials like dead plants leaves or fish, fish injuries, etc. This white stuff in my tank is found exclusively on hard plastic and glass surfaces and healthy leaves! So it is not fungus? It looks like this, note the left side of this leaf stem: More pics: Here it is inside the filter inlet, the white stuff is waving in the water stream: Outside on the filter inlet: My biggest problem is that it forms a layer inside the filter tubing and hoses and it is significantly reducing the water flow. After hoses cleaning, the water flow can be reduced up to 50% just in a couple of weeks! Does anybody now what is this? What is the cause of it? How do I fight it? Thanks in advance, Aleksandar .
  9. Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? API Goldfish pellets, peas, lettuce * Any new fish added to the tank? They came home 3 days ago * Any medications added to the tank? None yet * List previous issues experienced (dropsy, SBD, etc.) None yet, just concerned about Bevery's fin * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. N/A * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? White spot on back fin * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? no I know I'm supposed to have a test kit, but I only have an ammonia kit thus far. I will get a full test kit next week. Tank perameteres were 'perfect' according to LFS this week before bringing them home. I am testing ammonia, which has stayed at 0 but can't test the rest currently. They seem healthy, active. I'm wondering if perhaps she (not sure just guessing on sexes) was injured during netting/transport. It has been there since day one, but not getting better. Perhaps a little worse. Any advice on what it might be appreciated. I didn't want to salt as Teddy seems fine.... Thank you in advance. -F
  10. I have two 3-4 inch oranda goldfish for a year now. My red and white oranda is fine, has no problems. My gold oranda, however, has a few white marks along the edge of her caudal fin. It is NOT ich, but looks more bacterial or fungal. I have been treating with pimafix, melafix, and added salt to the tank for about 4 days now, and while it hasn't gotten any worse, it really hasn't decreased either. Otherwise, she acts, eats, and looks fine. I am not sure what brought it up or what it is, but I was hoping for some treatment advice. I have the fish separated with a tank divider since the red/white oranda can be very aggressive towards her. Also, unrelated, but the gold oranda also 'nose dives.' I tried looking up what that could be, but can't find anything. She has always done this and I have treated both fish a couple months ago for parasites, to be safe, since I suspected flukes. Is this a behavioral thing or possibly something else? The red/white Oranda doesn't do this. The gold oranda is also kind of stupid overall, if that helps... lol Tank Set Up: 29 Gal 1 AquaClear 50 1 AquaTech 20-40 1 Fusion Air Pump 500 Water Stats from API Freshwater Master Kit: 7.5 pH 0 Amm 0 Nitrites 20 Nitrates 20-25% Weekly water change w/ added Prime and Easy Balance I feed them 2x daily, small amounts of Omega One flakes (primarily), TetraFin Color Enhancing Pellets (occasionally), and Tetra Dried Shrimp (daily). - I think I am going to switch feeding them to every other day. Note: THIS IS NOT MY FISH, but it looks EXACTLY what my fish has (and I can't get a decent picture myself) .JPG"]http://www.wetwebmedia.com/fwsubwebindex/Cypriniiform%20PIX/Goldfish%20PIX/Sid-whitefluffyspots[1].JPG Please help me out, I am so tired of fighting this kind of thing with my fish. I feel like it's a never ending battle.
  11. Hi - I just brought home 3 new fish, 2 of which seem to have some disease present. Unfortunately, I did not notice until I got home. The store is willing to take them back, but I was wondering if I could get a diagnosis and tx. options. I have not posted my tank ph etc, but these are new fish, so the water in my tank did not make them sick. Pretty sure the gold fantail has ick, but don't know what the black and gold telescope has. https://picasaweb.go...feat=directlink
