  1. Hi, I have 2 thirteen year old goldfish. One of the goldfish in the tank is having a bloating issue. Here is the info you would want: pH - 8 KH - 78 or so Ammonia - 0 Ammonia in tap - 0 Nitrate - 0 Nitrate in tap - 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrite in tap - 0 Substrate - pea gravel (white) Filters - 2 (one canister Fluval 406, one hang on back aquaclear 75) Tank Mates - 2, 13 year old common goldfish are the only fish ever in this tank Food - peas Treatments in tank - Prime, Baking Powder to control KH, H202 for oxygenation Temp - about 74 degrees Goldfish 1 has red streaks in tail but is otherwise eating and pooping. The goldfish I am really concerned about is goldfish 2. Goldfish 2 has red streaks in bottom fins, bloating in belly and now belly is starting to get hints of red on belly. I have not seen any significant excretion of feces in at least a week. I did see one small piece 2 days ago. Was eating 1/2 of a pea for a few days but now is not eating. I have been performing 20% water changes daily for about 5 days now. I have been working with another site but wanted a second opinion on what to do. The water is just finally under control but I have previously had Ammonia and pH issues. The other site helped me balance the water so it wasn't swaying as much which was greatly helpful. Fish were previously living in 1/2 tsp/gallon of salt since I got them. Salt is now removed from tank. I have tried a garlic treatment for one day and they also recommended a dandelion treatment. Need quick help.. this is my baby. I am heartbroken. Video:
  2. This is my second goldfish Cloud 9... I was wondering what breed "it" is and I also wondered if goldfish's fins continued to grow as they grew up? I really hope so because I see these beautiful long finned fish and I can't find them anywhere... Thanks! P.S. There is actually NO yellow on him. It is just the glare from the lamp next to their tank. He is all pinkish white. P.S.S. He has a tiny tiny wen. P.S.S.S. Lets just pretend for a moment I'm NOT a photography student or that these aren't my pictures. LOL
  3. A few months back my goldfish had injured himself on a decoration quite badly resulting in a small open wound and a tear to his tail. I treated the open wound and it healed in less then a week. His tail however has not healed at all. I'm starting to think it never will. It's just a small tear and doesn't affect his swimming I'm just confused as to why it hasn't healed and looking for an explanation.
  4. My fish Titan has been in quarintine and has recently begun developing black on his fins. at first i thought it was because of high water levels so i checked the levels and did a water change... But the levels where perfectly fine... So i was wondering if goldfish can get black coloring? ... because i thought that they could only get lighter like the colors orange or white...
  5. Is this normal? She seems to be swimming fine. I think I read on an old thread here that it can be from her sleeping on it wrong. Is this true? When testing my water of late the only thing that was close to high was a nitrate of almost 20. I can get the water tested but it wont be until after my exam.
  6. i am a new goldfish owner and about a month ago i purchased a black and orange oranda. After about two weeks he lost all the black (i know this is normal for goldies) then a week ago i noticed that the ends where turning clear! is there something wrong with him? or is it normal?
  7. So I've been a little concerned about my Black Ranchu...maybe it's nothing but..I keep thinking something is wrong with him. When I got him he was bigger than all my other goldies and they've out grown him so now he's the small one. It just doesn't seem like he's grown much. Maybe that's normal. I don't know. Anyways, so today I was looking at everyone and I noticed his back fins have areas that are thinner, like lace. I don't know how to explain it, so I hope someone knows what I'm talking about. They are not shredded or anything, but it's like looking at black lace, where some areas you can't see through and some are really thin and you can. My husband thought maybe it was just growth? I just want to make sure nothing is wrong. It would be hard to get a good picture of it. I just wanted to pick your brains. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid. =) Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level 0 * Nitrite Level 0 * Nitrate level 20 (we are doing a change tomorrow..hubby had finals this week so it's been put off a few days) * Ph Level, Tank 7.4(If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) * Ph Level, Tap 7.4(If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Just the thinner areas on those fins, and I think I saw on a side flipper too and he never really got rid of that white fuzzy area at the base of his tail...I've seen it on other black ranchus and thought maybe it's just something they have. I tried salt on him a while back in a quarentine tank and it didn't change anything. He never acts sick. He does get some swim bladder from the pellets, but I'm going to try gel food and see if that helps. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? he eats like a pig and is very active

Frayed fins. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? No Hey everyone, This has been an ongoing battle for almost a year. I originally isolated the red oranda last year around Christmas time for 4 weeks in a 3 gallon fish tank doing a Melafix and salt treatment. Her fins began to repair so then I reintroduced her into the 20 gallon tank with the other goldfish. Progressively over the past 6 months her fins have slowly shown signs of deterioration and occasionally there will be white blotches on her fins. The dorsal fin used to be a perfect half moon shape but has gradually been eaten away in different areas. Her tail fins and swimmer fins are missing in certain areas and they almost look like someone "bit" them. There will be times where her fins do not show any sign of deterioration but they do not repair. The ordinary goldfish occasionally shows signs of fin fraying as well. His dorsal fin towards the front with the long stem is half gone (this happened approximately 1-2 months ago and has not regrown). His tail fin and back rear fins have tiny little areas were it looks like something took a bite out of them. It almost seems that his fins normally repair properly but the signs have shown up again recently. He also keeps getting little red dots near his mouth which disappear and come back every so often. I do a weekly water change of approximately 30%. I have a 5 gallon bucket dedicated to water treatments. I usually take a sponge and wipe the inside to eliminate algae growth on the filter return lip and throughout the tank. I have a volcano decor in the center that has a tremendous amount of algae on it that I just noticed this morning but it difficult to clean off due to its rough edges. I typically check the water with test strips at least once a week to make sure all levels are in check. I currently do not have ammonia test strips. Every time I do a water change I add a teaspoon of salt for every gallon of water I replace. Over the past couple days I've added Melafix to see if it would help with the fin regrowth. They are incredibly active and do not have problems eating. I feed them every morning around 7-7:30. I switch back and forth between frozen peas and goldfish flakes. Occasionally I will feed them a small piece of krill. This has been driving me insane for a while now and I want to do my best to take care of my fish. All advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated!! THANK YOU!
