  1. Hi all ! ....I know this is long overdue (as I have been very scarce in the kokos vortex for the last few months) It's been pretty crazy this past summer, with the birth of the mocha fry, me getting a new job, and now school starting Anywho, I just thought I'd drop some morsels of my finned children here.... Above are the 5 remaining Mocha fry, they are still living happily out in the 75 gallon outdoor tub-pond A picture of Mochi and Misha from a month or so ago Mochi-man Miss Misha ....Sadly these are some of the last photos I have of Misha She passed away a few days ago, she had been struggling with swim bladder issues ever since her initial spawning with Mochi and never quite recovered It really broke my heart to see her go, especially since losing Monet this past spring.... I feel blessed that she left me with such beautiful fry though Rest easy my little Misha-nugget
  2. ....i just looked at the conversation me and eric were having earlier via text and started cracking up. of course i screenshotted it to share with all of you ! i was texting him intermittantly during my zoology lecture at university, fretting about mochi and his QT progress ***edit and he's a picture of mochi so no one gets mad about the lack of goldfish picture-ey-ness lol
  3. Hello hello hello ! Sorry to spam the board with photos of my little Mochinator but he's just too cute not to share !! Looks like he's been working on that wen of his after a month and a half out in the pond I brought him inside as I can never see him- he's so dark that he blends perfectly into the black bottom of the outdoor tub I know it's kindof selfish, but i miss seeing his adorable little face Also, having the 5 fry in the 75 gallon tub is already pusing the limits so Mochi and Misha are now indoors for the time being lol and another of the handsome man before I go; I love the bright yellow around his face Oh!! And here is a before shot of the mocha babies: hopefully some time in the pond (and lots of bloodworms!) will send them through a growth spurt

    EGGS !

Mochi has been chasing Misha around pretty avidly since putting them together... I didn't think anything of it as I assumed Misha was a boy (lack of 'outie' vent and a few breeding stars....and me wanting her to be a him) This morning, when I went to feed them breakfast, Mochi was at it again....Smashing poor Misha into plants and filter intakes. At first I was horrified, but then upon closer inspection I noticed there were eggs- everywhere I have no idea what to do, as I really do not have the space or time to raise fry at the moment I don't even know if the eggs are fertile ? Mochi is a confirmed male (lots of breeding stars on gill plates and pectorals coupled with his incessant chasing of Misha etc; ) ---- what do i do????? And how long does it take to tell if eggs are fertilized? *freaking out*
  5. So, my two oranda monsters had officially been out in their patio pond for a month now Things have been going really well (knock on wood) and the two have really thrived in their own personal 75 gallon summer oasis I am hoping to move two of the larger mocha fry out into the pond later on this week and without further adieu i present to you an update of the illustrious two Top veiw of the pair, i still cannot get over how dark and velvety Mochi's colour has become !!! I think Misha has grown nearly half an inch in length !! really have to get on measuring them officially and getting a food scale it still astounds me just how much my 'little' mochi has grown and changed since purchasing him what a cutie top view of their summer digs of course mochi is nearly invisible against the dark backdrop thanks for looking ! will be posting an update of the mocha fry soon
  6. An update of my aqua-pups, and also Monet's official Kokos debut ! (I received Monet in the mail from Ken just over a week ago, and he was recently added to Misha and Mochi's aqua-palace until all three of them are moved out to the pond ) Monet ! He's such a goofball, he and Mochi have been up to mischief together since the moment they met synchronized faces really hard to get everyone all in one shot the spoiled fishies awaiting their water-change Mochi and Misha Misha and Monet and one last shot of the handsome newbie !
  7. I can hardly believe I've had this little wiggler for over three months ! Nor can i believe how much he's grown He is turning out to be a stunner for sure ....and quite the ladies man 3 months ago: today:
  8. After 7 days of observational quarantine with Misha looking healthy and happy as can be, we finally made the 'big' move ! Mochi and Misha are now bombing around in their temporary 20 gallon home In about 2 weeks I'll be able to move them outside to a cushy 40 gallon patio pond in which they will spend their summer anywho, enough of my rambling- here are the two cuties !! (i don't know why i have so many problems with cropping....i can never make my movies settings correct to fit in youtubes screen..... anyone got any tips? )
  9. So, as some of you know I recently had a moment of weak-will this past weekend and impulse bought one of Ken's 'scratch and dent' orandas ..... With the newbie coming in the mail tomorrow I've been busy making preparations- setting up the 20 gallon QT rubbermaid bin, sorting out heaters, fitlers, and food etc; All with Mochi watching me and doing his excited wiggly- pay attention and feed me dance ! He is just so darn cute Soon I am going to be the proud mama of two of the most darling orandas in all of New Jersey Some pics of the big-brother to be: "hrmmmmmm I dunno how I feel about getting an impromptu sibling...." "mom, you're still gonna love me the most right?" "I'm not gonna have to share my giant algae wall....am I?" "I'm too speedy for the camera ! " Gahhhh I can't get over how much little guy has grown in just two and a half months !! I can't wait to show his 3 month update because he really does look like an entirely different fish I am so proud of him and could not be happier A a big thankyou to everyone here at kokos for helping me keep him happy, healthy, and thriving oh....and a sneak-peak of the newbie they are certainly going to be quite the pair !
  10. check out the awesomeness !!!
  11. the drawing is about 200 x the actual size of him
  12. Hey all.... So lately I've been itching for a bigger tank- more fancies, more gallons, more, more , MOARRRRR... I'm a bit surprised with myself and I'm hoping that I'm not the only one who has had this feeling ....I think maybe I just tend to get obsessed with things? I don't know. I guess I just remember when I was younger and had 2 or 3 goldfish tanks up and running at a time. And long to regain that sense of ruling over an epic fish empire? lol But then after those thoughts pass, I immediately jump to the heartache felt when all of them finally passed on Which leaves me feeling very conflicted. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely happy with my current setup and just having my little Mochi-bear But there's just something so appealing about the idea of having more goldfish (or at least another one...). I am scheduled to move into a new apartment this summer and will have a lot more space and freedom to put up more tanks if I wanted to. Why do goldfish have to be so addictive? I am seriously fretting over this, which sounds utterly ridiculous....but it's the truth Anyone got any thoughts? Sorry to dump this all on you guys
  13. Hey guys (: Was feeding Mochi this morning, and just thought I'd share his profoundly rotund cuteness with you ....He really is such a sweetie, small but sweet He was a bit shy at first.... (please disregard all of the poo, tomorrow is water-change day ) But soon he gathered his courage to come investigate ....He promptly began part one of his choreographed "FEED ME NOW PLEASE" dance, making it nearly impossible to photograph him ...Thus ends our photoshoot, for all remaining photos of mochi are white blurs
  14. Hey guys, so this morning when I went to do Mochi's waterchange I noticed that he has a raised scale on his left side He is otherwise acting normal, being his chipper and adorable self and begging for food I proceded with my 80% waterchange and put him in a bowl temporarily, to snap some pics for you guys... I'm really scared/worried.... I love this little guy and would be devastated if anything happened to him here are the best pics i could get....he's such a wiggler !! .....and apparently photobucket is down will post them when it comes back up. i'm freaking out ....... * Ammonia Level(0ppm) * Nitrite Level(0ppm) * Nitrate level(2ppm) * Ammonia Level(Tap0ppm) * Nitrite Level(Tap0ppm) * Nitrate level(Tap0ppm) * Ph Level, Tank (7) * Ph Level, Tap (7) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops?
