  1. I just received these to magnificent calico Orandas today from Cynthia at ECR. I love how they look like different fish from side to side. [emoji813] They had to acclimate in a bucket for a while because the temp difference was to great to put them directly into the qt tank. Look at the blue This one had a pink gil plate on this side and is mostly blue/white on the other The other side This one has has really cool tigery markings. I think he's male. See his couple of breeding stars And their first video ....... Is couple posts down
  2. Hi, I knew about Dandy Orandas and Rain Garden and found out about East Coast Ranchu through this site. Not ready to buy, but enjoy browsing. Some general questions for those in the know... Does East Coast Ranchu have black or mostly black calico ranchus ever? Most I've seen since I found out about her site are lemon or red/orange. What happens with the few Dandy Oranda fish that aren't sold through the auction? All saved for the special sales I hear about? I have signed up for their newsletter but haven't received it yet. They go for so much! Not that they aren't worth it, but WOW! Just curious. Thanks!
  3. Hello everyone, Since the imports didn't work for me, I decided to give a shot to the "american bred" chus.. These chubby cheeks SVR's arrived in great condition. The packaging, the water quality and the fish itself were superb..!! Im sure you all know where they come from...yes, ECR.!! Stewie Jr. Peper
  4. Hello everyone!. Im being very cautious right now after what I experienced with some imports so I don't know how to quarantine this (ECR) ones properly Im sure some of you have purchased ECR fish so I would like to hear your methods They have been with me for a week now & I've following most of the seller's recommendations. * low water lever * sponge filter * NLS 1mm pellet * 75 temperature & ph above 7.8 I added salt yesterday, 0.1% (after a week of chill - de stress) but I'm a little nervous about continuing with salt to reach 0.3% and (double dose) prazi Seller obviously recommend to quarantine the fish but leave the quarantine method up to the buyer (I believe to avoid complains later) She says not to use any of the (cycled) filter media from existing tank neither the water. Because this ranchus grew up in a "perfect" environment, they don't have any antibodies (immune system) so they shouldn't be mixed with ANY imports or LFS fish I noticed that they get stressed every time I do a water change.. they run away and face backwards followed by the long string poop.. I did a 100% WC last week and They didn't eat anything for half of the day and had the "hair poop" for several hours (However, poop is HUGE any other time, that's why I think water changes stresses them) And this is why I don't know how to proceed.. Last thing I want is to overstress them (with add-on's in the water) and have the possibility of an opportunist bacteria or parasite kill them __________________________________________________ So first things first.. 1- Should I or shouldn't I continue with the salt until reaching 0.3% ??? 2- Should I or shouldn't I add prazi to the tank.. ??? I believe prazi doesn't bother (stress) the fish if they don't have any flukes/parasites but Im not 100% sure 3- How in the world do I (gradually) increase their immune system (antibodies) ??? Im not planing to have this guys by themselves so Im scared of them dying when I move them to the main 125G which has seven LFS juvies Thank you all for your comments
  5. I contacted Cynthia of East Coast Ranchu (one of our forum sponsors) a little over a month ago about getting some ranchus, since I had not been restocking my tanks when my older fish passed away. Cynthia was very gracious, and was quite a pleasure to deal with. I chose two day FedEx shipping, and the fish arrived safely, soundly, and did not at all seem like they had spent almost two days in a box. Because Cynthia had already treated these fish for flukes and other parasites, the current QT is quite easy. They have received two rounds of prazi, and because there was absolutely no reaction, I will wait for another few months before I do another dose. In addition to these chus, I also brought home a calico ryukin from my local Petsmart. Everyone is behaving well, and showed no response to prazi. They do not have names yet, but here they are. Two Black Chus These are the smallest of the six, and I can hardly tell them apart. They are settling in nicely, and have grown in the last two weeks. Calico Ranchu This one is so fast, I had trouble trying to get some good photos. Lemonhead Sakura Ranchu This one is my favorite. Bonus Sakura Ranchu I had originally bought 5, but Cynthia sent me a bonus. He is missing an eye, but that has not impeded him one bit. This is my second favorite. Calico Ryukin He was at the local Petsmart for over a month, and was still there when I went to get sand. I have high hopes for this one. Random Shots The Big Boss :rofl Thank you for looking!
  6. Whew! Pardon my capslock. I am so excited. My new friends are here! I ordered 3" T109 Wild Metallic ranchu and Cynthia threw in a hitchhiker who needed a home: a wittle baby one-eyed pirate ranchu! I can't quite tell what color he is, though; he has those cool scales that really stand out and remind me of The Rainbow Fish. They seem to be adjusting well! Luckily I'm at work today so I can't bother them too much. Little guy seems to be taking the move harder than bigger guy. Pics are on the way, for some reason Flickr isn't working with me ^ Going home! ^ Here we are!!! ^ I see youuuuu...

  8. Finally got around to taking pictures of my cute ranchu from East Coast Ranchu. They are doing so well and are going out in the pond soon! the pictures are a bit poor because I don't have my preferred image editing software on this computer. The bf chose WWII plane names as the theme for these guys! First off the sakura! I've named him Spitfire He has amazing colors and already quite a wen! The soon to be lemonhead: Bearcat He has the best chubby cheeks and a fantastic topline. After I picked him out me and Cynthia noticed he had a little antennae on his caudal that is nearly invisible from above. I wanted him regardless, he's just too perfect! And last but not least, the calico Zero He is much shyer than the others in front of the camera but he has the coolest markings for a calico, plus he's a full matte which I just love. He doesn't have a ridiculous amount of wen like the others but he's going to grow to be a stunner I'm sure. I also want to take the time to thank cynthia from east coast ranchu for being so kind to let me into her home to choose my fish. It was probably the best buying experience I could've had and seeing the excellent health and conditions her fish are kept in is really refreshing. I'll be posting an in depth review of her on my fish blog (on tumblr) if anyone is interested. Thanks for looking guys!
