  1. I decided to redecorate a small tank I used to keep my late betta fish and got a mangrove root from the aquatics shop I usually get all of my tank equipment. I kept it in a bucket for two weeks changing water every 2 days. The soaking didn't help much in its conditioning to be put in the tank, in the sense that after 2 weeks it was till dyeing the water brown. So I placed it in the tank with both heater and filter running, thinking the water movement and the heat would help the process. No fish in the tank at that time. It did. In another 2 weeks it stopped discoloring but then the actual problem presented itself. Happy it was finally ready to become part of a beautiful set up I took it out to clean the tank and discovered it was all covered with some white slimy stuff. Its been about 1.5 months since then and I have been regularly doing water changes (70%) and scrubbing the root clean. The white grossness reappears every time. What would you advise me to do?
  2. Hi Everyone, I added some air plants around my 4x2x2. Hope you like it.
  3. I'm looking for a piece of driftwood, large enough to be visible in a 110 gallon tall tank. If you are selling or giving away please let me know!
  4. I'm really disappointed in this aquarium ornament! It's a skull ornament from Petco, and made by a company called Exotic Environments. I was so excited when I got it because it looks awesome and it's a good size. The finish was in excellent condition of course, being that it was brand new. But after having it in my tank for only 22 days, the paint is already peeling off badly. I'm pretty shocked because you would think a decoration made specifically for aquarium use would hold up better when used in... well, an aquarium! Here are some before and after photos. Before After Here is the right side: And the left side: There is some peeling on the front as well: Just looking at the before and after photos right now, it also appears that the overall color of the finish has lightened considerably. The lights on my aquarium are no brighter than your average aquarium lights, so that is odd. All-in-all, I would definitely NOT recommend this product to anyone! I had initially purchased it for short-time use over the month of October for my Halloween-themed tank, but it hasn't even been able to hold up well in this short amount of time! I saw an ornament somewhat like this one on Big Al's website, so maybe next time I'll try that one and see if it's any better. Or perhaps I'll try to repaint this one and seal it with resin. If you have either this ornament or the one from Big Al's, I'd be curious to know how yours is holding up, so please let me know!
  5. Is there a way to cure popsicle stcks to be water safe? Through coating, boiling, baking, etc...? I have LOTS of plans and ideas and I need something wood like to make into a decoration. I want to make a bridge thing, and a fence, and some other stuff.... If not popsicle sticks is there something else I can use?
  6. I finally set up my 29g tank (my first one). I'm expecting my first goldfish to arrive later this week! He's a tri-color Ryukin and I'll definitely post pictures when he arrives. I decorated the tank this afternoon and wanted to see what you all thought ^^
