I just fed everyone some peas (miracle food!) and he ate normally (quick and piggy), but this is the 3rd time today I've seen him sit there. He's in the plants a little isolated and seems to be sitting on his front half. EDIT: He'll sit for awhile and then swim about, but he seems to keep doing the heavy breathing. Everyone has been normal until now.... *I think the ammonia level is just from the BB equilibrating since I just added them to the cycled tank
  2. Here's an update on my speshial fish, Peaches and Harry Potter. Peaches was one of my original three, and he's actually doing OK. Back in February, his tail became very red, he lost a bunch of scales and he started bottom sitting a lot. I QT'd him and tried what I could, but I don't think we ever determined what exactly happened to him. For many months, he's been hanging out with Harry in their own bachelor pad, where no pushier goldfish bother them. Peaches still is missing one scale on one side and a patch of a few scales on the other side. His tail still is a little red, but that might be natural since his tail is almost fully white. He hovers near the bottom with Harry for much of the day, but he swims fine. I think he's down there because Harry is, either because he's copying his behavior or because he finds it comforting. I recently weighed the fish for the first time, and Peaches is our biggest fish! He was the smallest when I get them. Harry Potter was an impulse buy shortly after we got fish. You can see his lightning bolt in the picture in my signature. I found him at Petsmart the day the final HP was released. I went back on the next Saturday, which was the day I saw the final movie, and he still was there. I thought that was a sign that I should get him. Unfortunately, I was so focused on his lightning bolt (which was gone within a month) that I didn't notice his floatiness. He doesn't "float" so much as have trouble controlling his buoyancy. He swims like a cartoon -- you know how the cartoon characters run and hit the brakes and skid? That's what he does. He darts one way and tries to whip around, but his little butt kind of skids along before he can make it stop. Eventually, he started sitting more and more. I assume that he sits to rest due to his difficulty swimming. And he does swim -- he eats fine and will have active spurts. But he spends most of his time resting. I assume that Harry floats due to a physical issue. He is a nymph (a fancy with a single tail) and he is very short bodied. Maybe that's a factor. These guys are in a 36 gallon bowfront acrylic tank. I had to buff this tank after my son scratched in badly. It looks OK. Scratches aren't too visible on acrylic tanks when they are filled. Here are the scratches -- I was so mad for so long: http://www.kokosgold...r-old-who-wins/ Also in this tank are 8 glowlight tetras. They've been in there for a few months now, and that seems to be working out. I got them because the tank was too still. It looked very depressing. The goldies love to bomb the tetras, and the tetras seem to have gotten used to it. I haven't seen even a hint of aggression from any of the fish. I also have about 15 ghost shrimp in there. One problem with bottom sitters is that they weren't stirring up the bottom enough. Crud was settling and being left undisturbed. I don't think of the shrimp as cleaners, but I do think that they help keep things moving at the substrate. Plus, they are very cool. They can be hard to spot, so when we see one, we get excited and start looking for more. The plants in here are doing OK. The vals grew to the top of the tank when I planted them, but now they are short. One of my bulbs was out for a few months, so I'm hoping that now they will start to grow again. Also, the plants on one side of the tank look taller and perkier than the other side, and I'm not sure why that is. The shorter side is closer to the window, but it's an east-facing window, so it's not offering a lot of sunlight. Still, it does get direct sun in the morning -- shouldn't that side be growing better? TMI! Stop the yammering and bring on the pictures!! Peaches shows off his good side. Harry's normal parking spot. He likes to wedge his nose under the plants. Where's that lightning bolt?! Don't take pictures of tetras! Take pictures of me! Ghost shrimp out of hiding. Sneaky shrimp.
  3. I just noticed this morning that my Oranda, Moor, and feeder has had some injuries at night. My moor has possible dropsy that can't be seen properly on my camera, my Oranda is bottom-sitting quite frequently and has a injured lip, and my feeder has a injured lip, and nothing else with my fish. I will get a picture of the injuries ASAP. They are still wanting food, as usual after I feed them.

Missing scales, had a fluffy white string coming from his mouth when I first got him but this has since disappeared completely * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Bottom sitting more often. Hi guys, the inevitable happened and here I am on D&D about my new oranda whom was rescued from a tank of dying fish. From what I remember, none of the other fish had the same symptoms as Lord Jabu Jabu, but after posting a little while ago he was quarantined to prevent an epidemic. Those fish were all bottom sitting and had fin rot, along with cloudy eyes on the moors, possibly the beginning of ich or a fungus, or a pH crash. I do not have the resources to get a bigger tank for quarantine but he hasn't shown any symptoms that he is stressed (no gulping, frantic swimming, etc) He has been doing well but now he is bottom sitting. His poop is also white and stringy, which I think could also be a sign of stress but again, I have to work with what I have until next month -.- I can get prazi relatively cheap, only 6 dollars at my lfs. What can I do for this guy to make sure I don't lose him? He doesn't bottom sit all of the time, just I have noticed it happening more often, and it isn't normal for him.

Oh and splits in the tail he is quite banged up * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? He does occassiounal bottom sitting or just drifts around a bit but then other times he will swim fine since I did the water change he is no longer bottom sitting and kinda floating/ swimming a bit. He also isn't interested in food unless you hand feed. Poor guy has had it ruff and I figured since I had a really sucky day yesterday I should do something to keep me occupied, I wasn't planning on getting a cute really sick one but he just looked to sad and those chubby cheeks couldn't resist lol. I am uploading pics as we speak and I am not sure what to treat for first? Wait til you see his little face adorable <3

I apologise for the missing water parameters, i am waiting on a test kit. which will hopefully arrive in 2 days. i am also aware i will soon need a bigger tank for my babies & am looking at a 3 or 4 foot one for my birthday! apologies also for the very long post, i thought as much detail as possible would be helpful. I originally got my common as a "starter" fish for my new tank. this was recommended to me by an actual aquarium, not some ill-informed pet shop or the like. i know this is frowned upon here but i did not know any better, i was not aware of such a thing as fishless cycling at the time & would have used this method had i been aware of it rather than stress the fish. i was assured the "comet" (i have now learned he is a common, not a comet) is a hardy fish & will do ok in a cycling tank. indeed jaffa survived well & was joined by a fantail, nancy, a couple of months ago. gary the apple snail followed soon after. before she arrived i noticed jaffa displaying strange behaviour which i now know is called "flashing". he would go to one particular corner of the tank & do loop the loops at the wbottom, hitting the fine gravel i use in the tank about 3 or 4 times. i thought he was going mad from being lonely & didn't think it was a problem. he did it rarely, maybe once every week or two. a couple of weeks ago i noticed jaffa developed a small white patch on his side, like cotton wool. a couple of smaller ones appeared on the other side & one on the bottom fin of his tail. his behaviour had not changed & he was perky & eating well as always. thinking this was fungus i tried melafix & pimafix to no avail. (had to remove gary as he reacted alarmingly whenever i dosed the tank!) i removed jaffa to a smaller isolation tank (15litres) i put in some plastic plants from his home & some gravel & rocks, hoping to bring in some good bacteria to the new tank & new filter while i tried to treat his problem. i tried fungus cure first for 2 days(acriflavine/malachite green) then switched to multi cure (methylene blue/acriflavine/malachite green) for another 3 days, careful not to overdose i changed 50% water in between. he was still eating fine at this stage. about now i found kokos goldfish forum & started reading up about the benefits of salt as a cure. jaffa seemed miserable in his green water (homesick??) so i put him in a bowl of dechlorinated water while i changed his tank water 100%. did not change the filter media & left plants gravel etc in. very slight change to the white patches on him at this stage. i added the first amount of dissolved salt (3 1/2 tsp for 3.6 gal) & returned jaffa to the tank. he handled it well & was swimming normally, altho had little interest in food at this point he was still perky. next day & all but the white spot on his tail had gone!! i was so happy!! he even ate one pellet of food. i added the second dose of salt to an aerated section of the tank away from the fish & this is where he went a bit funny. within minutes he started swimming at the top of the water only with his head sticking out. i've never seen him do this before. he continued to do this for about half an hour & i panicked, i siphoned half of the water out of the tank & replaced with fresh dechlorinated, bringing the salt level back down to where he was happy earlier. he was still acting strangely, swimming at the top & swimming into the corner like he had no sense of direction. i noticed at this stage i had mismatched the water temp by about 3 degees celcius & he was suddenly in warmer water. i removed him to a clean bucket of water of the correct temp & used an ice pack in a plastic bag to bring his tank down 3 degrees before putting him back in. i felt absolutely awful, knowing i had caused him so much stress in such a short time!! i covered the tank to make it dark hoping it would settle him. i checked an hour later & he was still wobbling around the top of the tank. another hour again & he seemed to be resting on the bottom of the tank. when he tried to swim he seemed disoriented still, bumping into things, tilting side to side a bit as he swam. upon returning from work i saw his condition had not changed much. as there was only the small spot left on his tail left to heal i decided to return him to his home tank for comforts sake. i thought i noticed nancy swimming a little bit tilted also but i may be a bit oversensitive at the moment & she was just swimming normally for a fantail! she seemed to be lurking in one area of the tank a lot but still came out for food. i thought she was missing jaffa. when i put him back in she swam straight to him. upon return to his bigger tank jaffa kind of sat above the gravel & swam around only a little bit. he's had one manic episode of racing to the top of the water a few times almost like he wanted to leap out & swimming into the corner. he's definitely not acting normally & is very subdued right now. basically i'm not sure if i have stressed him out with the salt or done something else wrong to harm him?? could this be flukes even? i am aware that the uncycled hospital tank may have not been ideal but i tried my best to make it as beneficial & clean as possible for him while he was treated. i am hoping he will return to normal in a day or two but am worried that i may have missed something & he wont get better, even after the white patches have now gone.

Salt, MMs, Medigold * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Fantail has red dots on belly and on her ventral fins from where she has been bottom sitting. I have noticed some white/clear threadlike poo. * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Periodic bottom sitting I can't get the text to align to the left side??????? Any way. I have had some ongoing issues with my fantail for a few months. Things seemed to be under control as long as I keep up with WC regularly. I notice that if I slack at all she will begin to bottom sit and develope red dots on her belly and fins where she rests. A WC will resolve the bottom sitting and the dots go away soon after. For the last week she has been bottom sitting pretty regularly. If I get her attention, or if food is being offerd, she will swim around for a bit, but then go back to bottom sitting. My lionhead has begun to do the same thing. He is not quite resting on the bottom of the tank, but is hanging out in a corner, just off of the floor. This is unusual for him--he is very active and healthy. He has not developed any red dots. I have seen some very stringy poop in the tank lately. At first I thought that the blood poisoning had just taken it's toll on Goldie Hawn, but when Mumford (lionhead) began bottom sitting yesterday, I began to wonder if there isn't something else happening, but there are no real symptoms. They do get up and swim and explore and stuff, but then they will go back to sitting, as if they were tuckered out. ????? Thanks for any input. Oh, I should mention that the tank is 35g, but I only keep 30g of water in there so that there is a decent fall from the filters to add airation, there is a bubble disk in the tank as well.

Fungus patch * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Staying at the bottom, hiding, not eating, fast breathing... Ok so yes I'm back, and I need help. I just got out of an ich attack, and I was planning to continue salting and heating until next wednesday (a week after ich has gone), but the way my fish were breathing stopped me from continuing. I didn't think they could handle it anymore. So I gradually changed the water until there is no more salt and slowly put the temperature back to normal. A night has past since then and they are still now doing better, so I'm thinking the problem comes from another source. One of my fish is developping what I think is a fungus spot, I'm starting to go crazy, honestly. Other infos: I checked my tank params again, and found out there a new reading of ammonia; 0.25 ppm. I started treatment of my whole tank with melafix this morning (for fungus) PS: Fish naturally has a white part coloring, the fungus is near the head and about 5 mm long Here is a video, please help, I just want to see my fish active and happy again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUgpq52QYyw Thank you for reading!
