  1. Thank you again. I've been doing some research, and I think it might be HLLE (head and lateral line erosion) because he's not really showing any internal symptoms (normal poop and all). So I think I'll look into the medicated food, increase water changes and all. But I'll also increase nutrients and food variety, which is a kind of treatment for HLLE. I'll keep you posted, for better or worse.
  2. Thanks for your answer. The spot is getting progressively worse each day. I'm also worried about hole in the head disease, which i think is what the other one had. I went to an lfs and a guy that sounded like he knew what he was talking about said it was something different, some sort of infection. The spot's been there for a week or two, getting bigger and bigger. I started Melafix about a week and a half ago, treating for the sore on his body. I don't have any medicated food. Is it available at, say, a mmm?

  4. Thanks for the response! I have a bubble wand in the tank, so aeration shouldn't be a problem. The fish sort of lets himself sink down a bit, then rushes back up and snaps at the water, then sinks down again, etc. If I didn't know better I'd say he might be extremely bored. The gills look good. Pinkish-red without any raggedness or anything. I've seen both kinds of poop in the tank; both brown and stubby and long, white and stringy. I'll change the water again immediately and salt the tank, and I'll keep you updated. Thanks again!
  5. All right, I guess I should actually give the FULL story here. Moses was in the 55 gal with the others until he started swimming clumsily and sitting on the bottom, and they started harassing him. i moved him to a 15 gal or so rubbermaid and medicated him with maracyn for swim bladder disorder, which i thought was the problem. he never really got over it, but he improved. i tried to put him back in with the others, but they still didn't leave him alone. i figured i should probably get him his own tank and give him peace. we put him in the tank and he seemed fine for a while until he started swimming awkwardly again wouldn't eat. also, recently he's been spending a lot of time idling vertically, head facing at a 90 degree angle straight towards the surface, and just sort of wiggling. it doesn't look like he can't swim, it looks like a very deliberate position. every now and then he'll go up to the surface and snap at the water. i think he's looking for food. anyone? help? please?
  6. Test Results for the Following: Ammonia Level? .25 i know, i know, but the tank is cycling. changing every day Nitrite Level? around 1 Nitrate level? 20 or less Ph Level? 7.6, i think Tank size (How many Gals) and How long has it been running? 20 gallons, running for just a week or two What is the name and size of the filter/s? whisper 20. came with the tank. i know, i need a better one but I'm a little short on cash right now. How often do you change the water and how much? every day about 10%, or 20% every other day How many fish in the tank and their size? one oranda, about 3-4 inches without tail What kind of water additives or conditioners? aquasafe Any medications added to the tank? no Add any new fish to the tank? well, yes. the one in right now What do you feed your fish? right now, krill. he can't seem to catch anything smaller Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt", bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? no, except he looks quite thin Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, ect..? a bit lethargic, swimming a bit clumsy, may or may not be flashing against rocks, and here's the big one: very eager to eat, but can't seem to swallow his food. just sits there and chews until he gives up and spits it out. anyone, help please? he's very thin, i don't know what to do
  7. Hey everybody! Long time no see, again. It's been a while since I've used salt. Can anyone let me know how to get a 1% concentration in a ten gallon tank? Thanks much!
  8. They're adorable Anette! Nice pictures too.
  9. Thank you guys so much for your responses. It really is truly appreciated. I already have some salt in the tank, though I don't know the exact concentration. I dont know about the quarantine tanke, though I know it's something I should have. I'll ask my dad to take me to the store sometime today. I think I have an extra filter lying around, so that's good. I will certainly change the water ASAP, and a little more than usual. Wow. I knew goldfish were messy, but I thought I was keeping up pretty well... I do gravel vacs with every water change. I don't really rinse out the filter media unless I'm removing it for medication purposes, which I just remembered is bad. Yes, the eyes look just like white donuts. As far as remedies for the pH, I've just used water changes and pH up. The tap water tends to be a little higher pH. Moses is still eating, though he only eats for about 20 seconds, rather than his usual 5-minute search, and then he returns to the bottom. No other physical symptoms as far as I can tell. I do actually have some medicated food. Medigold, I think. It's something Koko sent me once. Thank you guys again so much for your help.
  10. Eh, somebody help me out!!! Poor moses! Test Results for the Following: Ammonia Level? 0 Nitrite Level? 0 Nitrate level? 60ish Ph Level, (If possible,KH and GH and chloramines)? very low, but it doesn't change, no matter how much ph up I add. and the other fish don't seem to be suffering from it Ph Level out of the Tap? 6.2 Tank size (How many Gals) and How long has it been running? 55, about a year What is the name and size of the filter/s? fluval 304 How often do you change the water and how much? 25-30% every week How many fish in the tank and their size? 5 goldies, between 2 1/2 and 5 inches What kind of water additives or conditioners? aquasafe, ph up Any medications added to the tank? no Add any new fish to the tank? no What do you feed your fish? sinking pellets Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt", bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? very puffy, whitish translucent skin around eyes Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, ect..? lethargic, sits on bottom all the time
  11. My rubber-lipped pleco has been missing for weeks. I realize it's a large aquarium for a 1 inch fish to live in, but he's never been hidden this long before. The only place he could hide would be a hollow log ornament, and I've thoroughly checked it-- he's not in there. I've searched the tank many times over and have seen no sign of him for a very long time. Anyone have any ideas on how to bring him into the open if he's still alive?
  12. Oh, I'm sorry about John. Your other two fishies look great though! Usher sounds very artistic. Adorable!
