  1. If the surface is not large enough, there won't be sufficient oxygen absorbed into the water from the air for the fish.
  2. I thought they were air bubbles too, but they haven't popped all day. I guess they are eggs.
  3. There are these bubbly things floating at the top of my tank, not all of them the same size, but small, so they kinda look like eggs and they don't pop. My male fish died, so none of them can fertilize the eggs if they were eggs.
  4. Okay, there is this big cup-like thing with a tube coming from it extending into the water from outside the tank (so it hangs). The tube sucks the water into the cups where the water goes through the filter inserts and spills out into the tank.
  5. Okay...the brown specks may be from parts of his body where there aren't as many scales. His fins are clamped (tail fins look sharp and pointy). A few days ago, the little guy was at the top of the tank. Now, he is just at the bottom, unmoving. I get so freaked out whenever I barely see him concealed behind some plants, but hes not belly up so I think its okay for now. I will water change!
  6. Okay, getting to the store is very good. I'm very disappointed because my parents won't let me get a testing kit because they think you shouldn't need one if you do water changes even though I can pay for it. I don't have any aquarium salt, and do not know how to use it.
  7. was the goldfish recently purchased? was there a recent water change? was there a recent change in diet? was a new equipment installed? is the tank new? Gold fish is about 4 months old, there have been no problems with him for that period of time. No recent water change before ill signs. No change in diet, no new equipment, tank is not new.
  8. Ammonia Level Nitrite Level? Nitrate level? Ph Level? Ph Level out of the Tap? Tank size(How many Gals) and How long has it been running? Don't know the above--need test kit. What kind of Filtration? Um, it uses the replaceable filter inserts. Other than that, I don't know what kind it is. How often do you change the water and how much? 10% every day, the past few days What kind of Water additives or conditioners? No salt, but I use a dechlorinator. Any Medications add to the tank? none How many fish in the tank and there size? Two fish in the tank, about one inch in length each. Add any new fish to the tank? no. What do you feed your fish? Any unusual findings on the fish? Such as "grains of salt", bloody streaks, frayed fins, fungus? Might be brown specks. Any unusual behavior? Like staying at the bottom, not eating, ect..? Staying at the bottom, not moving very much (its almost like he's forcing himself to move) And the other fish always eats all the food that gets dumped in there first. If you can what is the chloramines Level from the Tap? *cries in frustration* I dont know!!
  9. And I only have one other fish in the tank besides the one in the picture.
  10. The fins are clamped, and he's not swimming a lot. There is some algae growing in the water but did a 30% water change and plan to do small frequent water changes. Not sure about pH, etc--I'm getting a testing kit very soon. Tanks is just under 30 gal with many plants. Other oranda has normal fins and is swimming so it seems healthy. I dont know what disease the little guy's got. I feel so frightened because I just lost another fancy a few days ago. (Oh, the white specks you see is just scratches on the tank in the light.)
  11. I really do not want to use salt because I read it can harm the fish too.
  12. I have a 20 gallon planted tank, with (now) two fancy goldfish inhabiting it. The tank had algae in the water for a week now, so maybe it was harming the fish. The water change helped--the tank looks less greenish.
  13. I don't have a water tester. There are like 30 plants in there so I never thought I'd need one.
  14. I had three fish, and now I have two. My goldfish was found at the bottom of the tank, belly up, and bent at a stiff angle. I had to get him out with a net. The water in my tank has been green because of algae in the water...could that have been it? And also, my two other fishes' top fin has been slightly pressed flat and they are staying near the surface of my tank. This is unusual behavior for them. I am scared.
