    worms in filter!

Yes, I definitely think they are annelids. No bristles or flatness. They just seem completely round the whole way through. What is really weird though, and maybe noteworthy, after placing a lot of their previous media and filters in a bleach bucket, I noticed that some of the smaller individuals were still swimming at the surface even though they'd been in bleach-water for a couple of hours. What crazy and hardly creatures! They died eventually. The ones in my filters now currently haven't harmed my goldies in any way, but i do want to get rid of them just in case Thanks for all the great info guys

    worms in filter!

these are the best I could do. I dont have a fancy camera. But I was able to catch one and put it on a flat lid. The last photo is from below the tank. The second to last photo are some of the worms on the base of my sponge filter. Thank you for your reply!

    worms in filter!

Hey every one. I was wondering if any one else has found worms in their tanks before.... no idea how this happened to my tank, but its awful! It all started when about a month ago, I realized my main tank (55 gal with 4 telescope butterflies) was kinda cloudy. So after some inspection, I found worms on the media in my canister filter! They are brown and very thin and tiny. I have found one or two though that have exceeded a cm long! Currently, my tank has a sponge filter and a 30 HOB because my canister is outside drying after a bleach bath. But sure enough, I come home today from work, and I see the signs of the worms again: cloudy water, and brown "powder" collecting around the base of the sponge filter and worms back on the bio balls in my HOB. I dont know what the brown powder is, but it collects where ever the worms are congregating the most in the tank. And these suckers must have short life histories and reproduce like crazy because these worms were not on the media two days ago and now they are noticeable. I have done deep cleanings on this tank and completely changed out the media and filters (and added in cycled media from one of my other tanks), but the worms always come back. Im sure because it isn't possible to completely rid of every single egg or worm that might be hiding extremely well. I dont want to have to bleach the tank entirely, because I dont have some were to put my 4 butterflies at this moment. So I am thinking of cycling one of my spare tanks (a 40 gal breeder) from scratch with pure ammonia, and then adding my goldies once its done cycling while I bleach their entire main tank.... Unless some one else has any better ideas/treatments to get rid of the worms without hurting my fish. Any advice would be much appreciated!! Growth/ball in eye?

thank you so much for the reply. I posted this exact post on another forum days ago and I have like 40 views and no replies and I was getting more and more worried. If this just compromises her sight, I am fine with that. I am more than happy to take care of her and make sure she gets proper amounts of food. I was just worried that this was going to be something worse that would shorten her life. I read some where that telescopes are prone to cataracts. Maybe this is actually whats going on.

    Growth/ball in eye?

This is my calico telescope named Rush. I've had her for half a year. She's in a 55 gallon with three other telescopes. They are all pretty small (3-4 inches at the moment)The Tank has been cycled for about 9 months and is running with a AquaClear 70 HOB and a fluval 306 canister. Ammonia consistently below 0.25 ppm, Nitrite has never spiked, is always 0, and Nitrate is consistently about 20 ppm. pH about 7-8. I use tap water for water changes, but always fill up a 30 gallon Rubbermaid trash can first and treat it with prime before adding it to my aquarium.Anyways, I just noticed this morning that she has a ball in her right eye. She does have abnormally large eyes compared to her tank mates, so my first thought was maybe she damaged it. But when I looked closer, I saw that what's in her eye looks like a ball. so what is it? a growth? a parasite? I just started watching her and observing that she has slight buoyancy issues. She tips forward for a second or two and becomes vertical while she's looking for food, especially under the direct flow of the HOB filter. I am really worried. She is my favorite girl. I'm looking at pictures I've taken of her and it looks like she must have developed this "ball" in the eye within the last week or two because it's not present in any of her photos from mid Match. Here are some pics of her. Any one know what this is? I am worried about her health :/ (the first pic is of her eye when it was normal) here's what her eye looks like now. You can see the ball in her right eye: I should mention too that this tank is bare bottom, and I feel them two different types of hikari sinking pellets (daily) with the addition of either repashy gel food or frozen blood worms about 5 days a week. And now that I am looking at the photos above, her left eye is cloudy too

Any one have experience with a Fluval 306?

Thank you! I will check on that immediately!
  9. Hey every one! Filter maintenance question today. So I have a fluval 306 canister on my 55 gal. It's been awesome ever since I set it up about 9 months ago. This last week I took it apart and cleaned it out during a water change. Didn't do anything different than I usually do and ever since that cleaning day, it has been so freakin' loud! Sometimes it rattles for a bit after I do any maintenance on it or change any of the media, so I usually give it a day or two to settle itself but the loudness didn't stop this time so I took it apart again to make sure I put was everything in place properly and it's still doing it! Has any one else had this problem? Or does it sound like it she about time to replace a part? Any advice would be much oblidged!! Thank you

    Parasite Prevention

Hello every one, today's question is on parasite prevention. I have a 55gal tank with 4 telescope butterflies. I've read/heard that some aquarists do quarterly parasite prevention treatments. I'd like to learn more about this so that I can prevent more often than treat when parasites signs become visible. Do any of you have any preventative treatment processes you do? and willing to tell me what works best for you? Thank you -Emily
  11. Thanks guys I trust the folks on here so any referrals to good breeders or sites is greatly appreciated lol
  12. Hey every one! I don't know if I am allowed to ask this on here, but I am looking to adopt 3-4 juvenile butterfly telescopes. 2 inches or smaller. Are there any breeders out there that are willing to sell and ship them (to CA) for me?? Thank you! -Emily

    Bottom Sittying

Hey every one. A little sad right now. My male butterfly telescope is bottom sitting today. He has been my healthiest guy up until now! Yesterday and today he has been trailing a strand of clear poop. Gave all my fish peas yesterday but usually I can see when the peas leave their systems from all the green poop. So I am wondering if he is retaining all of his food and has severe constipation. Water quality is as normal and has been the same ever since I started up the tank a year ago. pH 7.6 High Range 8.0 Ammonia 0.25 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10 Does any one have any advice for me? maybe an epsom salt bath? Me and his girlfriend are feeling pretty sad about it, as we are both encouraging him to make some kind of movement other than laying belly down in the corner

    Bump on Head?!

Thank you. I just ordered Metronidazole. It should be arriving tomorrow. Are there any tips or guidelines you suggest to follow when I dose him with it? Or should I just follow the directions given to me on the bottle? also, I will do what you said and two 100% water changes ever other day once he begins treatment
