  1. Its appetite and feces are regular, and no unusual behavior! OK, we've discussed this and recommend Deworm 3 here. A medicated food gets the medicine to the intestinal worms. This treatment is gentle on the fish. Thank you everyone! I will order the recommended medicated food and keep you guys updated
  2. Thank you for the feedback! But this morning I found that its vent isn't red and swollen anymore! I'll keep an eye out for it if something happens like this again. Could there be another reason why it became red and swollen?
  3. I haven't been on here for about 3 months now, and i just wanted to stop by and see how everything is going plus I have some new additions to my tanks! First, this big boy! This oranda was originally my cousin's, and he asked me to take him in because he didn't have time to care for it anymore. It was in a 20gal and was only fed floating pellets. Now that he's in my care in a 55gal and fed a variety of food, he is so much more active and LOVES to eat. At first, he was scared of my hand/presence, but when his wen gradually covered his eyes, he started to rely on eating from my hand. ALSO, I just found out that he is a male! Some breeding stars showed up but unfortunately no one to mate with :c Next is this beauty! He/she is my personal favorite. I bought it as a Panda Butterfly tail Telescope. At first, he/she was a nice Panda color and over time, with the variety of food, it became orange/black. I love love LOVE the coloration in it and can't wait to see it grow! Next, in this group picture, the newcomers are the white Pearlscale w/button eyes & the little Ranchu in the back! I got the little pearlscale the same time as the Panda Telescope. Just couldn't resist its eyes! It also has a long, flowy tail, which was some bit of a concern. The two Aquaclear filters from this tank were too strong and ripped its tail. I've since then transferred this one to my bottom tank where the input of the filter is not strong enough to pull him by the tail. The ranchu I got was an impulse buy from my LPS. There rarely is any Lionhead or Ranchu on my side of the island, otherwise I would have to travel to town and buy from breeders or a LFS. So when I saw this one, I just had to get it! Last, but not least! I don't have any photos of these yet, but my cousin gave me 2 calico fantails and 1 orange baby fantail that she got as gifts/prizes from work. I just love the coloration of the fantails! They look like twin tigers Plus 1 of the calico has a "normal" eye and a button eye! Currently, the little baby fantail is in an isolation/breeding tank that is a Hang-on on one of my tanks. It honestly looks sad because i know it wants to swim freely, but I'm scared it's going to get eaten or sucked up by the filter.

I have a Black Telescope, about 3in from head to tail, which I've had for about 6 months now. He/she has a red, swollen vent that I've kept an eye on for a few days now. He/she is very active, is eating, and poop is normal. I have observed no unusual behavior. I've tried doing some research but haven't really found anything, other than that it could be internal parasites. But i'm not sure how I would treat that. Here is a photo:
  5. Wasn't sure where to place this topic since it includes both equipment & water quality information So i'm almost complete with setting up my second tank (bottom tank in the picture) just waiting for the lights to come in the mail. I purchased a Fluval 306 and have it up and running with some media from my AC filters from the top tank. Established media used: 2 pieces of sponge (each are the size of a credit card that are about 1 inch thick), placed in the mechanical filtration basket about a handful of bio-media, placed in bio filtration basket right now, the water parameters read: Ammonia: less than 0.25ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate- 5-10ppm will adding more media help cycle it faster? or just leave what I have now and let it do its own thing and test the water everyday?
  6. I use an AC 110 & 70 on my 55gal. for that extra filtration. I recently bought the Current-USA freshwater LED light, which is about $48 on Amazon for the 36"-48" length. for my second tank, another 55gal, I'm upgrading to a Fluval 306 canister filter online at Petco ($169 with free shipping). over time, I hope to get my money's worth
  7. i've read that the GPH should be 5 to 7 times the size of your tank. I am in search of canister filters too. did some research and looked through reviews. Brands like Eheim & Fluval seem to be the ones people recommend the most. I have a 55gallon, so looking for filters with 275-385 GPH. so far the best one I am looking to get is the Fluval 306 at 303 GPH. I've looked through Petsmart while on my own canister filter search. The MARINELAND brand items are on sale. The API canister filter is on sale as well. If you're only looking at items at Petsmart, I would look into those brands over National Geographic.
  8. Update: got some Bar Keeper's Friend from Home Depot (only $2 each) tried it out with barely any results. it took multiple tries to make a dent in the buildup on the brace (which looked like last picture I posted above) gonna try it out again with multiple cleanings and do each side one by one.
  9. it does get some sun during sunrise, so about 2-3 hours? and that's all the light the tank gets during the day
  10. I have LED lights. I leave them off or on low brightness during the day
  11. thanks everyone! it's just that I bought a new tank and moved everything in there. the tank glass is clearer and more satisfying to look at without algae on it!! I'll just have to deal with algae on the plants and in the filter until it decreases.
  12. So my tank has been cycled since the end of August. Ever since then, I've had brown algae. I read that brown algae is common for newly cycled tanks and lasts for a while, but it's been over a month and I'm slowly getting tired of dealing with it Water changes are every 2-3 days and I always scrub the walls of the tank and try to get as much off of the leaves of the Argentine Sword & Anubias I have in there. Also, I try to get as much algae off the inside of my filters when I clean them (every 2 weeks). I try not to leave the lights on because the tank is already outside. Is there anything more I need to do to control it?
