  1. I never tried the one you linked to and use. This is the food many say to be the same high quality as the food offered by Goldfish connection before it closed for good: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018CJRBM?colid=1CON4TIDBLJQY&coliid=I2Q0IUW36FG9YZ&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl It's not as expensive as Hikari and you get twice as much in terms of quantity.
  2. Thank you, Mandy! I do 90% wc every day now that the fry are in a bigger container. So glad I don't have to scoop them out anymore. However, I can count to 10 after I filled with clean water and the bottom is already covered with poop. The sponge filter does a great job but I suspect it won't be for long.
  3. Excellent idea! Thanks!
  4. They are pooping like there's no tomorrow. Would it be ok if I start using a hob filter? The smallest one can't get suck because the holes on the pipe that goes in the water are not large enough. I took a pic of it next to my phone for comparison. What do you think?
  5. She here they are (gen 0&1) in their new temporary container. It would have been nice to separate them by size but no room for that. Hopefully I'll be able to do that in a couple of years if I decide to go into breeding goldfish. Here is a close up. Sorry the pics are not the best but the containers that were good for keeping food and thus suitable for goldfish at the store were all like that, not transparent.
  6. All my tanks are bare bottom because this way it's easier for me to keep them clean and mantain good quality water. I started using JBL Ammoex in my HOB filter last week. It's practically like sand. It came in a cloth-like bag that I cut in four and sawn back in four smaller bags filled with Ammoex. The fabric doesn't let the sand out (I checked during WC. No loose sand in tank) so I believe it would be just as good to use for argonite. Sharon, I didn't quite understand what you meant when you wrote that nitrifying bacteria coming from different conditions would die. If It would die what's the point of using it even as substrate?
  7. I read a post by RanchuDressing who recommended aragonite sand as crushed coral substitute for its better and larger life span when used as natural ph buffer. I'm curently using Alkaline Buffer by Seachem that does the job but when I run out if it would like to switch to somthing else as I'm not a big fan of pouring chemicals in my tanks. So I looked up aragonite sand and found out that it is indeed an excellent and long lasting buffer and natrates and ammonia remover due to de life bacteria it caries. However, in the information provided it was also stated that the bacteria "fall asleep" and don't do their job at low temperatures. The text didn't say what is meant by low temperatures but considering it's normal usage is in tropical/reef aquariums I recon the temparatures at which goldfish are normaly kept should fall into this category. With that info in mind I can't help but ask myself, is aragonite at all sutable for goldfish tanks? Do you guys use it? And one more thing. Have any of you used it in a HOB filter?
  8. Aragonite sand will keep working indefinitely. After a long period of time (we're talking years), you'll notice that the volume has decreased some and you'll want to add more. But it dissolves super slowly. I used it to boost water hardness for Figure 8 puffers. Worked great!Hi! Could you tell me if you use the aragonite sand as bottom of your tank or put it in the filter? I'd like to use it as filter media. Thanks!
  9. UPDATE: A week or so ago I found some eggs with black thingies moving inside while I was scrubbing the big tank. Gogo & Rory couldn't reach them under the sponge filter and they dodn't get eaten as the rest. So there is a very small school of new fry I call gen-2. The other two geberations are doing fine and I just moved them to a bigger container the other day. Pics coming up soon.
  10. Here is a side view of his may be problematic eye: I didn't have the time to post them yesterday. And sorry the pics are a bit smudged. He wouldn't stand still. Not much of a photo model I guess. Do you guys see something wrong with his eye or should I just chill?
  11. Thank you guys! What Mikey said and Fantailfan1 and I thought he was talking about his eyes is normal. He's had those streaks ever since I got him. I found a video that shows Gogo and Rory 6 months ago and his eye has definately grown. Strange thing I had't noticed... Gogo is the bigger tele.
  12. Mikey, your post got me thinking may be I didn't notice this before and his eyes might be disproportional. Trying to find some old pics to confirm. I suspect the blood streems are from the close up and the high resolution I always forget to turn off. I'll try not freek out while I wait for mods. Your comment helped me in keeping it together. Thanks!

About 20cm from mouth to tip of tail. * * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Seachem Prime and Seachem Alkaline Buffer * * What do you feed your fish and how often? New Era Goldfish Soft Pellets/Hikari (the violet package. I feed that less often because I read here and there it may cause swim bladder issues)/New Life spectrum Goldfish pellets/Peas - In the morning on a rotation principal so they would have diferent meal every day. In the evening I always feed Repashy soilent green. * * Any new fish added to the tank? No * * Any medications added to the tank? No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Gogo had some fungus on his fin 3 weeks ago so I used Tetra Gldfish Goldmed. He can't have salt dips (passes out the moment I put him in the water). The med eliminates any fungus in 24hrs. * * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? No. Just his right eye that looks bigger, sort of bloated. I'll post pics below. I took him out in a bucket 'cause I saw him chasing Rory again and notices his eye was kind of swolen. * * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Apart from his serious libido problems so far he's been acting normal. Any ideas what could be causing this eye problem? And most importantly how and should I treat him? * Thanks in advance for reading this and for your help!
  14. Oh, do they care for Repashy...went for it like pirañas to black pudding! Should I try and feed artemia (frozen brine shrimp)?
  15. Thanks Koko! Looks almost like a show fish. Can't believe I got him/her in a petstore
  16. Thanks for replying, Chelsea. I'll give some tonight see if they'll be interested
  17. Introducing my new ranchu, Calum (sorry for the cables in the back)
  18. Uups, forgot to include the pic of the baby food. Here it goes: I soak it and it sinks like a rock to the bottom of the tank
  19. Hi, I've started feeding my fry with this once a day: In between thier usual brine shrimp meals. They are now slighlty larger than 1cm the biggest and about half cm the smallest fry. Would it be ok if a add some Repashy soilent green to their diet or it's too early for that kind of food. Also should I try frozen artemia? Thanks.
