  1. When one of my goldfish had to go into QT, my other goldfish literally stopped eating even though food was dropped in front of his face. I let this happen for four days, then I put him into a large glass measuring cup where he barely could move. He wasn't squashed in the cup, but just couldn't move anywhere other than just turn around and round. I then dropped some food (very very small pieces) into the cup and by just breathing he ate the food because he couldn't escape from the food. I'd try this with bloodworms since minimal chewing is involved (I think) in getting this food into his digestive track. Since your fish is relatively active any flalying around in the cup may result in him swallowing bloodworms. It seems syringe feeding is easier when their energy is lower.

If you try this, don't keep him in the cup too long.

Will do it in the morning for sure!..

Now.. I've done this in a smaller container (perhaps bigger that what you describing and she in fact swallows some repashy but she spit it out.

  2. I'm intervening for ArcticMama because she is tending to sick young ones.

Can you order NLS Hex Shield? It has metro and yummy ingredients that fish find hard to resist. Let's try both this food and the metro in the water for now.

Until you get this food, can you mix some garlic with repashy, and feed your fish in a small enough container so they basically can't help but inhale the food? Or try syringe feeding your fish? There is a video of Helen doing this. I'll look for it... In any case keep the metro in the water.

Hi Lisa..Thank you for "jumping in" ..

I don't know if I explained this before but Im gonna shoot a video tomorrow morning to illustrate

This butterfly doesn't even go near the food.. food hasn't touch her mouth in at least 7 days..

as soon as the food comes down from top, she runs away to the opposite direction

As soon as she smells it (or looks like smelling) she runs to the opposite direction.. sometimes it looks really dramatic because she swims up and down in a corner like trying to escape from the tank

Hikari (red bag .5mm) has a lot of garlic in it but that hasn't work either.. BUT.. if you still think that NLS might work with a fish that runs away from food I can order them tomorrow

I saw Helen's video a few days ago and Im willing to try it.. however this butterfly looks (and acts) terrified of me..

Every time I try to grab her to put her in a small container she puts up a fight trying to escape from my hand or swimming against the net.. she just doesn't wanna be touch or net (at least by me)

Something you should know is that she did eat the first one or two days.. however I'm perhaps guilty of overfeeding those 1 or 2 days and after those days she went to "lethargic mode" then had a HUGE poop came out.. I don't know if she experienced something so painful when pooped then that she is not willing to experience again..  (I don't even know if what Im saying is even possible.. Im losing it so Im starting to create explanations, ha! :hummm )

  3. The metro flakes are meds, not food - you're dosing that med by another means. No metro flakes.

Feed bloodworms or repashy lightly for a day or two, just enough to see if she is eating. If so, feed several small feedings.

Incredible..!!.. 10 days and counting..

I cannot explain how this fish is still alive.. but thank God it is..

I'm perhaps hallucinating but I even think she looks skinier.. :(

Today is WC day and third day of metro (re-dose day)

  4. Okay, proceed as indicated and check back in with us if you don't see improvement in eating by Wednesday or Thursday.

    Question..

I fed Metro food (flakes) accidentaly this morning (I dont think this calico ate) then I added the Metro powder..

They're supposed to eat nothing but medicaded flakes once you start but I don't want to overdose by doing metro flakes + metro powder..

(Im almost sure what your answer is gonna be but I need to check before doing it)

So.. cancel the flakes and feed regular or continue w/ flakes for a couple of days (along w/ powder) to see if she eats some ???

  5. We must have been posting at the same time. So you have three newbies in quarantine right now, being treated with salt and prazi? I'm thinking your water takes a bit of acclimating for your fish if history is anything to go by, but this may be more than that. Let us know your medication status, I'd like to treat for an internal bacterial infection along with the qt rounds, but we are going to want to treat this one separately because of the antibiotic.

If these are all new arrivals or recent remember that every time you add a new fish you essentially must begin your quarantine period again :)

Ah.. I just noticed a couple of teeth at the bottom of the tank.. who knows if that's related..

The other butterfly is lethargic as well.. She eats very good but goes to "lethargic mode" 30min after lunch

Ken (seller) tells me these butterflies are totally lethargic at first and they're used to the outside's (pond) life so it takes a while for them to get better but some never do

I've even tried pushing gently the belly area to see if eggs came out, which Ken tells me is normal after shipment

I was gonna start a Metro flake treatment but i see it pointless if she's gonna spit it out

I have Kanaplex, Metroplex, Bifuran, PraziPro, Metro flake food, Kana flake food & triple sufla..

Im really scared of adding antibiotics.. Im having flashbacks of goldfishnet fish.. all died the second day after adding metro/kana combo

But I'll do whats best for the fish!..

They all arrived at same time (Tuesday,Sep 15).. I started the salt & prazi on Saturday (Sep 19) and removed both salt & prazi on Wednesday (Sep 24)..

I added salt again yesterday (1%) but no prazi.. She had a "string poop" hanging ,a few hours after the salt was added yesterday

  7. Im super concerned about this one.. I don't know how long will it take for a goldfish to die of starvation

I received it last Tuesday (Sep 15) along with another butterfly

Wednesday (Sep 16) and Thursday (Sep 17) she ate kinda normal for a new/acclimatizing fish

However on Friday night (Sep 18) she started to show no interest in food so she has not eaten anything since then

I've tried the same food that DO gives them (Repashy gel).. also hikari pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, & peas but nothing works.

She shows very little interest in the morning when I turn on the lights but either she runs away from food as soon as she sees it or she spits it out

I've send the video to the seller but he cannot figure out what's wrong with her.. even when she acts lethargic at times she acts normal the most

I've even isolate her to force her to eat but she just runs towards the oposite direction where the food is

I dont want to lose her but I cannot make her eat anything.. PLEASE HELP US

(Im filling up the D&D in just a minute)

    thank you so much!!

  8. Wondering if anyone can tell me what should I look (exactly) when buying an "A" grade ranchu ??..

I know they're supposed to have a smooth rounded back with egg shape belly, short & deep body (rather than long) and a 45° tail

However, I've seen "AA" ranchus with a "not as rounded" back so I get confused

Im planning to buy from someone that is bringing them from Thailand and I wanted to make sure I get what Im paying for

    Thanks for your feedback !!

  9. I have a 125G that has been running since beginning of March.. It is cycled already

    ammonia: 0

    nitrite: 0

    nitrate: 20-40

Everything was fine until a few weeks ago my water started to get cloudy..

I used to do 40-50% WC weekly but now I do 35-40% twice a week.

It gets somehow clear after the WC but turns cloudy the next day..

I believe I have more than enough filtration for my 7 juvies

I have a small sump loaded w/ bio in the return area along with an algae scrubber and some ivy

and I also have a FX6 filled to its max

I was contemplating a UV sterilizer or the koi clay but I don't know if Im missing something now that might help

    Thank you for your help

  10. .... Magenta.

No seriously. I don't do ratios, I go by depth of shade of the water.

Ok.. so lets keep the PP concentration out of the question..

If I filled my QT tank with water then add the PP to reach the "desired color"..

then I throw all my hoses, filters, airstones, etc to it..

How long do I leave everything under water ??

Is any of the "stuff" gonna change color permanently ??
