  1. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/images/categoryimages/highdef/CD-437755-FS61492R-fish.jpg Yeah, i'm using this product. It seems to leave my PH perfectly balanced at 7.5 or 7.6 each time. I've never had a tank rating come up differently. So, should I be concerned about the KH Gh?
  2. I thought the PH in the tank was lower because of my water conditioner, so would I need to buffer the tank ph?
  3. An update on his situation. I think I was probably seeing new wen growth and just didn't know what I was seeing, but he no longer has very visible signs of anything now. He is still floating at the top more than he used to, but will easily swim to all levels of the tank (I have put him back in main tank). I also noticed that his waste is looking stringy as opposed to more solid. Additionally, I think i'm seeing a slight relapse of flukes in my 2 fish, so my plan is to start dosing the tank with Prazi again to fix that problem. One question I guess I have is with the stringy waste, is that a sign of internal parasites and how should I deal with that?
  4. 2 more pictures. Hopefully i'm just overacting, I just read that hole in the head can start by something that looks like a pimple. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ECnQHOcaHUQk1SRzUwNmotTFU/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ECnQHOcaHUTnRJVUw0Tmd4dUU/view?usp=sharing
  5. No pink or purple btw. Everything is orange as usual besides the raised white spot and what looks like the 1 or 2 new smaller ones that weren't there before.
  6. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0ppm * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0ppm * Nitrate level(Tank) 20ppm maybe 10? * Ammonia Level(Tap) 0ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0ppm * Nitrate level(Tap) 0ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.5 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.4 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? "API Drops" * Water temperature? "70" * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 38gal running for 4 months * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? "Marineland Penguin 350, Aquaclear 50 and Quietflow 20" * How often do you change the water and how much? Once per week around 20% Most recently I did a 40% because I noticed my Ryukin was breathing at the top a lot. * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 10% 2 days ago, 10% the day before that and 40% the day before that. (I noticed a slight bacterial bloom after the 40% change; hence the 2 10% changes. * How many fish in the tank and their size? 2 Goldfish, about 3 to 4 inches. * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Aquasafe Plus * What do you feed your fish and how often? Saki Hikari (Purple and Green bag) (Sometimes peas, not often) (Recently tried blood worms for the first time; about a week ago) * Any new fish added to the tank? No * Any medications added to the tank? No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Did a Prazi treatment before the holidays and used some aquarium salt during that time. Recently after noticing this "pimple" on Pete, I attempted a salt dip, but Pete didn't seem to handle it well and stayed on his side without attempting to right himself so I took him out and thought perhaps I had made a mistake with the salt to water ratio. Was going to try again until I suspected something more was going on. * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Lately he's been floating at the top more and less active; though he still eats fine and does swim around a lot when i'm around the tank. At times he looks somewhat agitated though. To answer your question Helen, he does not have open sores right now. The one really small white spot was next to another white spot that looked like it had some red... I don't know, these are really small right now, so it's not going to show up on camera, but, the new development on him looks the same as the white spot (that shows up more in the video), it's a bit smaller and on his lower cheek. The lower cheek looks slightly swollen compared to yesterday.
  7. Ok, i'm working on the water stats and the rest of the questions, but I took some photos just now. When I got home (cannot see in these pictures) there were 2, much smaller white spots, that were not there this morning. 1 was located on his cheek under his eye. It looked like there was some swelling too.. Now that he's in the QT tank, it's hard to see it for some reason. Anyways, I appreciate the help and here are some pictures as I test the water. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ECnQHOcaHUamhWTE1pbHJwSVk/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ECnQHOcaHUeE9ldDF2TkxQVkk/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0ECnQHOcaHUa2FRZ0h5ZkpTSDA/view?usp=sharing
  8. I don't know guys, i'm really bummed, but I think my Oranda, Pete has early signs of HITH. I'm sorry, but it's too late to test the water and everything, but I took this video on my phone. Hopefully you can get a basic idea of what's going on here. Based on some descriptions I read, if I were to guess, it could be early signs of HITH. It's a small white blister on his wen. Additionally, he seems to be floating at the top of the tank quite a bit more than he was just a few days ago. This all came up pretty abruptly, and i'm going on a vacation within about a week.. Such bad timing, i'm stressing out right now.. hopefully I can instruct my dad to help if need be. Anyways, ahead of help from you guys, I put in an order for "Nitrofuracin Green" and "Metronidazole Powder" from Nationalfishpharm.com. The shipping was insanely expensive to rush, so I just did ground and am hoping for the best... Any advice between now and a listing of water conditions from me would be greatly appreciated. For now i'm going to try and get him into a QT tank. It's just so late and I have no time to deal with this right now.. such a bummer!
  9. It was fun to watch the progress happen in this thread! Great work! Christmas is around the corner. I'm excited to see what the new larger tank will look like!
  10. Awesome.. man, someday I may be in trouble with my 38 gallon! I don't know where else to put a larger tank in my studio apartment though!! lol
  11. For me, I don't really have very good means to be able to QT a fish for that long, I guess I could always put one in a bucket with an air stone for a while, if I had to, but it's not something I really wanted to do with a new fish. Thanks for all the comments, very much appreciated!
  12. So this is my first video i've shared on here and the first featuring my new 38 gallon tank. I am aware that it appears my Oranda has flukes. Just noticed today, but was planning to treat after I put the new one in. Anyways, let me know what you think and like/share/comment on the video if you like too! Any advice is welcome as well.
  13. No problem, it's good to get all this info as soon as possible so I can figure out what my next moves are. So those pads with the charcoal in them are fine to stay in until they're starting to disintegrate? And then when you take that pad out, I suppose just having put a new one in, it's just going to temporarily set your cycle off a bit, but I suppose is better to be less frequent then? Also, I should just rinse the pads in water I just vaccumed out? I'll read the article still, but it's getting late, so I'll check them out tomorrow. Good information though, thanks. I'm using drops.
  14. Is flukes a parasite? No he has not. He seems really healthy though. I don't change the filter every water change, I change the filter about every 2 weeks when I do a regular water change. After I change the water, I leave the filter pad in like an extra day or so to hopefully let some of the bb mix with the new water. But maybe i'm going about that the wrong way. I'll check those links you posted. I use an API water test kit.
