  1. If you are willing to risk sucking up fry with an airline, be sure the height difference is only small, if the current is too strong you will definately damage the fry. I only scoop fry with a small bowl or spoon though.....

    Ohhhhh.... lets do this!

    Spawning Complications

I would say to directly do a large WC 75%+ and add the salt and double dose dechlorinator. I would also use clay minerals to help them restore but maybe you dont have. I hope the med team here wil help you along soon!

    OMG Googles!

This is such a mystery to me, how to take such good care of a goldfish that is obviously kaput. This may sound harsh, and it is because i have culled much 'better' fish. Anyway, without causing too much confusion i hope, i really love to see this fish and how it has been cared for with so much love is inspirational!

    Internal Filters

I have the 'jugs' on the powerhead equipped with medium coarse filter sponges, a 4cm hole trough to fit some bioballs so i can run multiple jugs on the powerhead without the risk of clogging! A very good simple and effective way to mechanically filter a gf tank!

    Internal Filters

I forgot to mention, you can obviously run a PVC air supply from the cellar if you want! I will make it a task to be done soon Koko! Offcourse life is busy when you have small kids, i had 4 and during those years i had NO fish! But i'm making up for it now they are in their teens

    Internal Filters

Well, i have seen your study of the filter media's 'wildlife' so i think you know why i am partial to easy cleaning and mechanical filtration! Yes the Hob's and power heads make some noise but like you say the big air pump which you will need if you have as many tanks as me is the most loud. UNLESS you spend a little more on that part, i use really heavy cast metal membrane pumps(Velda Silenta Pro series) which are quite costly but are amazingly quit. i have this pump attached to a PVC system to get the air troughout the fishroom. Maybe ill do a vid on the airsupply system i have running, the pumps i use are not available in the USA though. Anyway, the equipment should not be louder then the sound of running water in the fishroom.....

    Internal Filters

Hi Koko! It is a matter of preference, i have used some canister filters in the past, but to me this seems a step in between internal filters and pond filters. In my GF tanks i have (Resun) powerheads with filter ´jugs´, spongefilters and HOB´s. This works for me, at least for mechanical filtration and ease of filter cleaning. Biological filtration is ok if you maintain this setup properly, i clean the filters at every WC and never have any ammonia or nitrites. The spongefilters kind of provide BB saveguard (i think) for the powerheads and HOBs, when i clean the sponges some BB are released in the tank and will quickly reseed the other filters. Probably the best thing about my setup is that it is practically risk free, if one filter gets clogged or dies, there are still 2 or more working..... I am working on an 'aquarium' airlift system aswell, to improve the biological filtration effectiveness. There is allways so much to try out and improve, just wish i had MORE room for many more HUGE TANKS!

Oranda fry diary, THE BIG SPAWN!

Ive added a small vid to the youtube channel explaining how i WC the smallest fry. Excuse the poor quality of the video. There are many video's on how to feed freshly hatched atremia on youtube, how to hatch them and what is important. I personally use chlorine to sanitize the hatching bottles and rinse and sieve the BBS very carefully before feeding. I also have a second set of the bottles so they are also dry when i prepare a next batch.

    Big Spawn!

Did you have time to cull yet? The fist time you cull i would focus on crooked spines, single tails and underdeveloped fry(runts). These are easy to recognize and will help the good ones to proceed in better water quality and more food. I allways keep feeding the same amount after i cull. I usually cull about a third to a half of the fry. Maybe culling is the only downside to breeding GF, but it is key to breeding healthy and beautyfull fish.

    Big Spawn!

A few pictures please! Keep in mind the changes in feeding and waterquality should be kept in check with heavy WC's. Is the flukes treatment a precaution or do you have fluke problems?

    well water

You can just have a lab test the water periodically, also a good suggestion would be to visit a commercial company that uses well water to grow their trout or whatever coldwater fish. You will learn alot from that!

    Dino's Fish Store

Dino is very busy since he opened his store in februari this year. Ik know he want to get into exporting his fish, but it takes alot of time and effort to get this properly managed so i´m guessing thats why...... The fish i have are also from Dino, these are difficult to keep in our very unasian ways and climate and i must say they often come with some kind of transport damage. Their quality is unique in Holland though. Starfish has a huge bonus though, they can also source locally bred FG like the amazing TVR from Jinchu Kai UK(Andrew James and other Kai breeders) but also the highest quality Bristol shubunkin and veiltails. The huge bonus is that there is an active breeding society in the UK, unlike here in Holland where noone ever seems to have bred any FG. Still in my agenda to make a trip to Starfish on one of their open days! Here -for your enjoyment- is a video of a dutch international koishow where Dino and some of his fish were at. I was there on sunday so many were sold allready i'm afraid. The big ranchu in the video (18cm i think) was a prizewinning ranchu in Fuzhou goldfish competition i was told, it came with a cup and all......

Oranda fry diary, THE BIG SPAWN!

Afaik this depends on the genetics of the fish, a genetic coding that 'allows' yellow might be prone to discolouration if you ask me. Most R/W coded fish do not allow this yellowing and even in green water the white stays absolutely white(see my avatar fish for example). The fish that are fully white turn yellow, but the ones with a tiny red spot remain white.......
