  1. I'm sorry for your loss. What do you think of naming him New Charley? He'll have a different personality. Or Charlie Jr.? -Myss
  2. Hi Sue, I had your same question years ago. It is so rewarding for the relationship to TREAT your fish. But they can't handle sugar the same way. Check out my home-made fish food blog for my journey into healthy and natural goldfish treats and food. It sounds like you love to spoil your water puppy already with the mini shrimp, aw. You're on the right track by educating yourself and seeking advice about quantity. My secret treat ingredient is edamame, cooked with the membranes removed and mashed. It is similar to pea treats, and I think (from research) a bit healthier. One quarter of one edamame bean mushed or cut to a size smaller than your pet's mouth would be ok as a treat, even daily. It would work the same as peas for your pet. What is their name? Best fishes!
  3. Rest in peace Icicle. Such a beautiful fish, and I thought your naming scheme was very clever. I'm so sorry for your loss of your fishy friends, Fishofgold.
  4. Greetings KokoNuts, We had a recent server upgrade which broke the links of this thread for a couple of weeks. All the photos are linking correctly now. Myss
  5. Congrats Kovi, When you see how much they like it and you're getting good results - all that effort is its own reward. Check out my blog where I make gel food with edamame.
  6. Shahbazin I'm so sorry to learn about your sudden and unexpected loss of Clownie- both for you and your children. He was a neat little guy, and I appreciated his all white appearance. I'm sorry for your loss. MyssTeree Girl
  7. I'm so sorry for your loss of Chunk and Fleck.
  8. SKELATOR She's getting bigger
  9. SUMMER Here's a poor quality photo of the Ryukins and Goldie. I couldn't catch one of the amoonklein babies, but she's fine. Perhaps doing the best, actually since I couldn't catch her, heh.
  10. I'm so sorry about the loss of your dear Tricycle. From your memorial, I know he was well loved. I remember when you brought him home.
  11. SPRING Lots of spring pond chores. 1. Dose the pond with 10 grams of Prazi - for a suspected Fluke problem. I cast my stink-eye on the sellers of my 3 mail order goldfish. One has since passed. 2. Take a look at the GH and KH levels after a heavy rainy season. Found that they were below ideal. GH (7), KH (7), 3. Amend my 1000 gallon pond with equal amounts of calcium chloride and Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate). I will add slowly add this mixture over the next week. About a pound each. 4. Test pH. ( 8.0 ) 5. add an environmentally beneficial, completely non-toxic bacteria product like Pond Perfect 6. Vacuum the mulm off the pond bottom, which is my small pond's equivalent of a water change. 7. Reverse backwash the bio filter, which is my small pond's equivalent of a water change. 8. Tend to the water lilies: do they need planting medium or fertilizer? Do any of you pond keepers have any chores to add?
  12. Hi wonderful Kokonuts, It has been a while since I've updated anyone on the status of the 4 fry that Allie (username: amoonklein) gave me to care for last fall. Every little pooper is fine! They are rather difficult to photograph. See if you can tell (NOW) who is Mustashio, who is Sharky, who is Snake Eyes and where in the world is Cara?! These are her four different fish babies, photographed just last week. Just one week change between these two shots ^ v Where did Cara's eyebrow go? I'm going to have to rename her now!
  13. This was her expression after I told her!
  14. "What is this word, cull ?" Valentine wants to know.
  15. Another reason why I can't bring myself to cull fry. They are my pets, I don't raise them for money. So far, nature ( and unfortunately my inexperience) has taken care of it. Meaning that I haven't had to cull. I love to see their color changes. Vanilli is still working on becoming orange. Perhaps a photo of her next.
  16. Valentine I wish I had posted this on Valentine's Day. Little Valentine is a year old and look at her color changes! She's such a cutie right now. Weighing in at 18 grams.....Valentine! One year ago....
  17. Shannon and TD, Glad you're back in the goldfish arena after the tragic raccoon/pond incident. And Justine leads the way.
  18. Goldie's mug submitted to "Goldfish of the week" The title of this shot is "Fish Face"
  19. Close up of her interesting head spot
  20. Dramatic, no? I keep hoping her brother Pierogi will surprise us too!
  21. Yiffy's Color Change Yiffy has undergone a slow but no less dramatic transformation into an adult goldfish. Her mom, Queen B, was large and in charge and very orange (12/23/14 death by heron, swim in peace). Her dad, Shinto, is white with a red spot on his crown in the Tancho style of koi. Somehow this has translated to Yiffy being golden with a weird black spot on her crown. We love her. What do you think of her color change?
