  1. Red Cap Wen Rot Infection

Yeah when I clean it I mean using the tank water and squeezing the gunk out of them. I was lazy and didn't squeeze out the gunk for 2 months. I know shame on me! I can't readily get access to those antibiotics easily, unfortunately. Is that bag of liquid metro any good? Please let me know the dosage and instruction if it's viable. I'm not worried about risk if you think using it might increase the chances of survival. Otherwise, I'm going to just keep the red cap in 20G quarantine, keep doing water changes, and hope for the best.
  2. This Monday I just noticed that my red cap oranda has a ton of wen rot. I suspect bacteria infection. I fully expect him/her to die. I have formalin/Metronidazole. I don't know how to medicate him/her. I've put the red cap in a 20g quarantine tank and I am just keeping the water as clean as possible. Let me know if any of the medications I have can be used. I suspect I should use the antibiotic. What's the dosage and procedure? Things I know already I was lazy/busy and didn't wash the filters for over 2 months -> hence why my red cap is dying. I already washed all the filters I know I'm overstocked by 2 goldfish -> gotta compensate by water changes(twice a week) Red cap is probably going to die Yes, I know 40-80ppm nitrate is high, I'll do more water changes. I bought him/her 7 months ago at 5g, now she's almost 100g. Would be a shame if he/she died No plants, clear bottom tank, no ornaments either Automatic feeder 4 times a day, daily total of 0.25% of total body weight of all goldfish Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0ppm * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0ppm * Nitrate level(Tank) 40-80ppm * Ammonia Level(Tap) 0.25ppm * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0ppm * Nitrate level(Tap) 0ppm * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.0 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.4 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? api master kit * Water temperature? 28C with heater * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 80G for 1 year * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? 3. Sorry your fish isn't feeling well. I'm not a disease expert, so I can't tell you what's wrong with your fish. However, you aren't meeting the minimum care for your goldfish, which is why your goldfish is sick. Please read. https://www.kokosgoldfish.invisionzone.com/topic/121320-kokos-goldfish-forum-guidelines-for-healthy-goldfish/ A few things that might help with your fish adventures in the future. 1. 20 gallons for two fish is too small. You will need to compensate that with better filter and 80% waterchanges weekly. 2. I'm almost 100% certain 30% waterchange ever 2 weeks is not enough to keep parameters safe, especially for your filter/tank. 3. Aqua 200 is 88GPH. Get a better filter that will do at a minimum 200GPH, I'd recommend 300-400 because you're overstocked. If getting a new tank, new filter is out of the question. You will need to compensate with water changes. I'm not expert, but poor water quality is number 1 reason to fin rot. You will need to somehow improve the water ASAP, without shocking the fish.
  4. QT Eggs

I'm into my third week of quarantine, so far so good but I have a question about something. I have a red cap 1inch in body 5g, and ranchu that's 2 inch 13g. I put them both into a 10 gallon quarantine. Ranchu wouldn't stop chasing the red cap. Eventually, I found like 30 eggs and the red cap had a bunch of torn fins due to trauma. Literally, the ranchu took a bite out of the red caps flipper fin. Basically, half of his/her right fin is missing and tail fins torn. He/she recovering after 2 weeks of separation. My red cap is tiny, how can she be laying eggs? Is this just spawning behavior? The red cap seemed in really bad shape, so I put a divider between them. I'm a little worried about putting this little guy with my bigger veterans in the main tank that are up to 30g. They seem too young to be spawning as this size.
  5. SBD Floater

Just wanted to update you guys. Feed him some duckweed/peas. Now he seems back to normal. I guess it was some bad constipation causing him to float. Started to feed my fish 4-5 times a day, with much smaller amounts. Also, I'm not soaking the pellets, so that did not seem to make a difference. Anyways, the little guy can finally eat without floating upside down now! Thanks guys!
  6. SBD Floater

He's back to normal swimming after a night of being upside down. I knew it would leak nutrients, but the idea that pellets expands if not soaking them makes sense logically. But okay I trust ur experience. For duckweed, I'll be getting it from the LFS. How do I make sure, none of the nasty parasites don't get transferred with the duckweed to my oranda, which would contaminate my main tank Do I Prazi the duckweed? How much do duckweed do I put in the bin? Also, are you suggesting me to net the oranda out twice a day to feed it? Thanks for the advice!
  7. SBD Floater

ugh!!! I haven't had time to get alternative food. Soaked 10 pellets for 10 minutes and gave it to my oranda, he's been fasting for 2 days. Why is he floating? The foods already expanded in the water from soaking... Is feeding my goldfish green peas as a staple an option?
  8. SBD Floater

My oranda recently started to float upside down after each eating session. Been floating on and off for past week. I've been feeding him the same stuff for almost a year now, omega small sinking pellets without any issue until now. He's grown twice the size, but now he's starting to float? Not sure what to do. He's floating upside down after every meal. He recovery takes like 8-10 hours, before he can swim properly again. I know the standard procedure is fast 2-3 days, feed peas. Afterwards, though when I go back to feeding him the omega one stuff, he floats. I'm thinking of trying to soak the pellets first. How long do I soak them? I don't want the nutrients to leak into the soaking water. 9. Salt in water

When you do in-fish cycling and the nitrite spikes aka new aquarium. Another case, is if you destroy you're cycle with medication or if you add new fish and there's a mini-cycle. The salt helps the goldfish breath, but doesn't remove the nitrite. I think like 0.1% salt concentration protects very high levels of nitrite. Only use aquarium salt and never table salt as it's different. So if you have like 5ppm+ of nitrite, add some salt. I think the calculations is gallons of tank water -> convert to ml and solve this equation 0.001 (0.1%) = amount of salt in grams/ml of tank water. Just for reference, my 75 gallons at 0.1% needs 283 grams of salt, which seems like a lot, but it's not.

Should I quarantine him? Or try to use tweezers and get it out?
  11. Floaty listless fish

Salt or no salt? There's a bunch of confusing threads about it... Hikari sayinig not to use it. Also, does salt affect API master test kit in any way? My nitrites are showing 0 after a few days of salting at 0.1% or is this a coincidence?
  12. Floaty listless fish

Soo... what order should I treat my main tank? I have access to the following, Hikari PRaziPro, Metro+ and Ich-X. and Salt. Or alternatively, I could take all 4 of them out into the 10 gallon and treat them there? Not sure if the parasites and other stuff would survive in the main tank without fish.
  13. Floaty listless fish

Do I treat the main tank with that? Won't that kill all my bb? Or do I wait for symptoms and treat in a 10g?
  14. Floaty listless fish

No, but I can get some. Hikari Metro+ 3.5oz? I've never used it before.
  15. Floaty listless fish

Yep, which is why I'm 100% sure what ever killed it will be in the main tank. I pulled him out into a QT tank after he got sick. I'm going to salt it and Prazi the main tank. The other fish seem fine so far...
