  1. Goldfish Missing Eye

I missed this somehow. About a week into his recover I found out the tests I were using were VERY expired. I got a new kit, but he is doing great regardless.
  2. Goldfish Missing Eye

Thanks for checking in! He's doing great, he doesnt seem to mind having only one eye at all. Hes back in the main tank and his injury has healed nicely. Thanks for all the help from everyone here!
  3. Goldfish Missing Eye

I've treated his QT with salt water and seems to be doing well so far. Or at least as well a fish with cataracts and a missing eye can be.
  4. Goldfish Missing Eye

I have also attached a picture. He seems to have a bit of the piece that attached the ball of the eye hanging off and there is still quite a bit of blood. 5. One of my butterflies is missing an eye this morning. He is swimming around like nothing is amiss, but it is obviously very startling for me! I've set him up in a QT tank, but I was wondering if I should add anything to the water to help him heal up quickly or clean the wound. Any help is appreciated. It's a brand new QT tank setup so I didn't bother with a test. It should be clean as a whistle.
  6. Severe Overnight Fin Damage?

Ah! That makes me feel a bit better. I've been looking all over my tanks trying to figure out what could have caused it.
  7. Severe Overnight Fin Damage?

Thanks so much! I went ahead and set her up in quarantine just in case. I did notice the male chasing her a bit in the main tank. You don't think I should salt a bit just in case? Would that hurt her torn fins? I've never had to deal with an injury like this.
  8. Severe Overnight Fin Damage?

Hmmm... I went back to give my ryukin from that tank another close look and he might have a white spot on one of his pectoral fins. It's tiny if that's what it is. It could even just be a breeding star. Moby (the telescope in question) has a tiny bit of film on the edges of these tears. Idk if the film is just because of the injuries or possibly related to the white spot??

Fins are extremely frayed, there might be a small bit of film on the edges of the tears * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Fish is behaving normally. I came back from work today to find that my telescope's fins have been ripped to shreds!! I checked on both fish last night at 10:00 pm so I know that this is something that happened overnight or during the day when I was at work. I didn't check on them this morning so I can't be sure when it happened. I've never seen her with injuries like this! I have two medium sized goldfish in a 40 gallon tank. There isn't anything in the tank that could cause damage like this. They are the hardiest fish I have ever hard. They have had almost no health issues except for a very small white dot that appeared on the same fish about 4 months ago that went away within 2 days of a minor salt treatment. The fish in question has been acting normally during the day and her appetite has been great! I did notice that she was sleeping closer the the ground at night than she normally does (not bottom sitting, just floating close to the bottom), and my fiance said he saw her laying some eggs recently. I didn't see the eggs, but if what my fiance says is right then that will be her first time laying eggs. I have no clue how this happened. The other fish in the tank looks like a million bucks. No tears at all. Any help at all would be appreciated!! For now I am setting up a quarantine tank right now. Here is a video of her fins:
  10. Thank you so much to everyone who posted on this board. It means so much that so many people were thinking well of little Florence. Sadly, I had to make the decision to put her down on Thursday. A few hours after my last post I went to check on Florence and found her belly-up, struggling to breath and swim. She was listless and nearly lifeless and I couldn't let her suffer any more. It is a consolation that I do believe her suffering was short-lived. Up until that day she was as happy and friendly as ever, but the stress of what happened to her was too much. As my fiance helped me lift her body out of the tuperware she was euthanized in he put his thumb gently against her side and more puss ruptured from her right side. She had cysts on both sides of her body. I still don't know the cause of her illness and I'm keeping a desperately close eye on my two remaining goldies. I'm so heartbroken by her death. Once again, thank you so much to those of you who helped me through this and to those of you who were rooting her on. I cannot express my gratitude enough.
  11. I never was able to get a digital scale that read small enough to measure her. Walmart only had a large one. I even tried borrowing a mechanical kitchen scale, but that wasn't consistent and didn't tell me much. I just moved to a town of less than 400 people for a teaching job about 3 months ago. There aren't a whole lot of stores around here that sell that sort of thing. I did measure her though and she is 2.2 inches. I gave her the first dose of MMs yesterday evening and she ate it right up, but today she is on the bottom of the tank just letting the water push her around. She isn't eating anything and only gives a little wiggle when nudged.
  12. MMs arrived today! I found them as I was running out the door to leave, but I'll see about getting her started on them as soon as I'm back.
  13. Yep! A water change was priority #1 when I saw it came off.
  14. It's already pretty much dark and the lights I have in here are really low, so this was the best I could do. My fiance was a great sport and held her for me as that was the only way I was going to be able to take a picture of her side. You can see she's such a little girl. She looks like she has a black mark on her in the picture, but she doesn't. It's just a reflection and bad lighting. I can take better photos in the morning if these are too bad. Thanks for all your help!
  15. Well, whatever it was it fell off. I went to check on her after about an hour and her side was clean. No white thing or fleshy strings. I have no idea where it went and i'm really hoping the filter got it and she didn't eat it. Lets hope this is a good sign.
