  1. Thanks so much, Heidi! I hope so, too. Tap: pH 7.6 Ammonia (between 0 and .25) Nitrite (between 0 and .25) Nitrate (off the charts, I use a nitrate filter for 50% of my water to lower the nitrate, but it's still high) Kinda curious that the ammonia and nitrite from the tap had a tiny bit more color than the test from the tank?
  2. Thanks for the replies. It looks like a film over the eyes, worse on one side, but I'll have to look closer in the daylight. He has wittle eyes! I'll try to get a better look at it tomorrow. I'll be back in a bit with tap parameters. Oh, I just noticed the cloudiness today, though I noticed him acting a little "off" a couple of days ago.
  3. Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrate level(Tank) .40 * Ammonia Level(Tap) * Nitrite Level(Tap) * Nitrate level(Tap) * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 8.0 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Sponge filter * How often do you change the water and how much? About 50% every 3rd day * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? 50% 2 days ago * How many fish in the tank and their size? 2, he is about 2.75" the other is about 3.5" * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime * What do you feed your fish and how often? NLS small goldfish formula 2x a day, bloodworms every other day or so. * Any new fish added to the tank? No * Any medications added to the tank? A little less active than usual.
  4. One if my small ranchus has cloudy eyes, it almost looks like cataracts. He's been acting a little more sluggish than usual, but this is the only symptom I am noticing besides that. Him and his brother/sister are currently in a 30L tank for quarantine as I just got them maybe a month or so ago. Going to fill out the form now. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
  5. People go crazy with what they ask for their tanks! A 55 g with stand can go anywhere from $100-$400 in my local ads :/
  6. I do recommend East coast ranchu . They have a lot of options of quality chus, of course you'll have to pay for shipping . I personally think it's worth it for a better quality fish. I also recently saw some decent ranchus on ebay (probably not the best source) but looked decent quality for about $25. (Then of course you have to pay shipping). For a pet store and quality, I say those are too high.
  7. I think it may be, he regularly bops his head on the filter intake. He seems otherwise healthy.
  8. Thanks guys. I have noticed him being a little less active. I will have to lookup a vet that might do it, of course living in the boonies that might be difficult.
  9. Hello! I apologize if this is the wrong area to post this, or if there is info on this somewhere on the site (I really need to sit down at the actual computer!) Anyway, my gorgeous, amazing oranda has a lovely wen, which unfortunately has started to cover most/all of his eyes . I feel terrible that he can't see. I've looked up a little about wen trimming, but it seems pretty gruesome. I wouldn't have a problem doing it I don't think, but I would worry about the sedation and recovery. Does it NEED to be trimmed? I really would rather he be able to see. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Thanks in advance!
  10. Yes, I will be doing a water change in the am and qt'ing this guy.
  11. Yes, he is still eating. I will have to check my stock. I know I have some kanapex, icy tetracycline, and something that starts with an F. Not sure if any of these treat this kinda thing. What's the recommended treatment? Thanks Alex!
  12. Anyone have any suggestions as where to start? . I don't want to lose him or have it get any worse! Thanks.
  13. I will get tap params in a bit or in the morning. I'll have to turn off the softener as I use hard water to do the tank. If I recall correctly, last time I checked the ph was 7.4, ammonia was between 0 and .25, nitrite between 0 and .25 and nitrates were 80+. I've been using a nitrate filter, but only do 1/2 the water as it takes forever and needs to be recharged about every 30 gallons.
