  1. I'm so sorry!!! And yes, bleach will have a high pH, higher at a higher concentration (13 or so). So sorry about your fish :-(Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk Thanks my other one is doing well. I got a little paranoid last night and kept checking on him even tho he's in a different tank. I think I'll just let the tank run a couple days and hopefully the bleach will break down. I added almost a tiny whole bottle of dechlorinator I had. Then I'll change the water.
  2. Well once again ignorance has cost me. I poured the bottle and added a fish a little later. I didn't check the ph because I thought it'd be the same since I'm doing daily water changes on the tank the goldfish are in now. Well the fish croaked and I checked ammonia-0 nitrite-0 ph- off the chart. Like a deep blue color. Omg. Does that mean there's still bleach in the tank? I had double dosed prime. I feel terrible and I'm gna be depressed all night. If I didn't have one left I'd just give up. I guess all the bacteria from the bottle are probably dead too. I'm just gna pamper the one I have left the best I can. I have a big tub I'm trying to turn into a pond and build that bog filter. My boyfriends actually doing a project with a bunch of PVC and I get any left overs. So this one will get outside pond for the summer and I will be determined not to kill it.
  3. I think I got it all out. I refilled my tank all over my carpet lol and then drained it and filled it maybe 1/3 and just plopped the filter and heater and stuff in there with a bottle of bleach and turned the filter on. I got a tank with the $1 per gallon sale at petco (had no idea that was going on!) and it came with a bottle of tetra start right. I've read some good things on it so I dumped it in. Hopefully it does what it's supposed to. I leave out of state in 10 days and there's no way I can trust my boyfriend to do daily water changes for the goldfish in their QT.
  4. Wow that's a big difference. I definitely need to re bleach. It cleaned the algae off perfectly tho. I have a sparkling tank
  5. After looking some more on the internet, apparently I'm not the only one who was deceived, I'm coming to the conclusion it doesn't have as much bleach and probably has some different additives. I don't think it did the job. I'm doing a correct bleaching tomorrow.
  6. Clorox. I'm still looking for pure ammonia. <a href="http://s1256.photobucket.com/user/Tiffany_King2/media/Mobile%20Uploads/6D7385B6-D731-47B3-8B09-094759BA19AC.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii492/Tiffany_King2/Mobile%20Uploads/6D7385B6-D731-47B3-8B09-094759BA19AC.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 6D7385B6-D731-47B3-8B09-094759BA19AC.jpg"/></a> <a href="http://s1256.photobucket.com/user/Tiffany_King2/media/Mobile%20Uploads/ECA62E04-CF72-4671-A0FC-B527EDC63200.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii492/Tiffany_King2/Mobile%20Uploads/ECA62E04-CF72-4671-A0FC-B527EDC63200.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo ECA62E04-CF72-4671-A0FC-B527EDC63200.jpg"/></a> It says regular bleach just splashless and then it says not for disinfecting.
  7. I just saw the bleach I've been using to clean filters, tanks, plants, ect says not for disinfecting or sanitizing! I bought the right bleach today after running out. I guess the bleach I had is for clothes. Do I need to re-bleach my tank?! No wonder my tank was full of frothy foam lol. I hate to re do the tank cleaning esp since I started the new cycle but I need to get this right. And if that means bleaching again then ok. I couldn't find anything online about if it sanitizes still, I think it's just for stains.
  8. Lol I know. I was just getting the blue one and then I saw how yellow the other one was and thought he was neat. Usually I'm not crazy about plain orange goldfish. But he's a good fish I hate that he got dropsy so fast tho. Hopefully I'm fixing whatever has been going on.
  9. Thank you they're doing well. I put a whole bunch of bleach in their tank and left the heater and thermostat in with the filter running. I'm buying new media for the filter. If you use ammonia does that make the tank cycle faster? And will all this bleach with the filter running do the job? Any other precautions I should take? They're about done with the metro meds and before I put them in their temporary tank I gave them a salt dip. I'm going to bleach their plants and probably get them a tub to stay in for a while to recover. On a side note, I saw the cutest brown oranda with red spots on his wen. He looked like he was turning reddish orange though. Do the brown and red goldfish change to orange?
  10. Thank you for the support! Here are pics of the little guys <a href="http://s1256.photobucket.com/user/Tiffany_King2/media/Mobile%20Uploads/DF32528C-DAF4-4A34-A44E-7F19616E813B.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii492/Tiffany_King2/Mobile%20Uploads/DF32528C-DAF4-4A34-A44E-7F19616E813B.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo DF32528C-DAF4-4A34-A44E-7F19616E813B.jpg"/></a> <a href="http://s1256.photobucket.com/user/Tiffany_King2/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2BE20E95-2433-47CB-8C7C-9F3FFB91734C.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii492/Tiffany_King2/Mobile%20Uploads/2BE20E95-2433-47CB-8C7C-9F3FFB91734C.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 2BE20E95-2433-47CB-8C7C-9F3FFB91734C.jpg"/></a> Well my boyfriend won't be happy to hear this (he was very excited that I was getting rid of an aquarium lol) but maybe I'll make a nice set up for the 2 fish I have left, outside, while I restart their tank. Bleach dip the plants and use a stronger solution on the tank itself. Clean up a couple filters I have and maybe try to sell them and get a new one. The fish with dropsy is recovering nicely but I'll continue treatment for a whole month so I'll have time to make something outside. If I get a new filter and bring the goldfish back into the cleaned tank, could they bring back with them whatever was plaguing my tank? I was thinking after a month on metro meds and a salt dip before going into their new place might knock off anything and give them a fresh start. Well.. Now that I think of it a salt dip might not be good for the dropsy fish. I'm excited to see you're considering sticking with it!!? ? My only thought with what you've mentioned here is: if you truly believe the filters are contributing to your problems, to the point where you wouldn't want to use them again even cleaned, should you maybe just toss them - rather than risk endangering the fish of your potential buyer.? Or maybe at the very least have a strong disclaimer that you've had issues in the past?? I don't know, just me!This is true. If I did sell them Id definitely put buy at your own risk lol.
  11. Yes, I have stuck mine to the side. They also typically come with a sponge prefilter that gives the pump some protection from sand. Ok nice Ok hopefully it'll take care of anything external and the metro meds will handle internal

  13. I think I'm going to try a mini bog filter inside on my tropical tank to see how that goes. It has a sand bottom, can a pump still be used? don't they usually have suction cups, I could just suction above the sand?
  14. I definitely think I'll be trying those types for a while.
