  1. He is back to normal now after feeding him peas only for his constipation and salt treating the water for his wounds and lots of major water changes. He is so beautiful
  2. ive always gone gloveless, its quite tiresome rinsing my hands and arms off thoroughly before doing any work cleaning the tank. and also making sure i dont have any lotions etc on that i have forgotten about. (which sucks because i love hand creams and perfume) so maybe i might invest in some gloves. Especially because my job robs my hands and damages the skin on them all the time so it might pay to be more careful. Can anyone recommend some really good gloves to invest in? (That i will actually be able to get my hands on from here in new zealand)
  3. funny question but do you have a bathtub you can sacrifice for a period of time until your pond is prepared? (its a long shot i know but with a filter and bubble wand basic setup) and a really good clean/sterilization (bleached, air dried and then very well rinsed) it could be a backup resort for those koi. Of course it would have to be keep free and safe from any normal bathroom chemicals which would require careful preparation and care.
  4. any new decorations in the tank? the crystals maybe?

    Septicemia

Just treated my new oranda and im pretty sure he had septicemia, appeared to be constipated, probably had been for a few days before i bought him, the stress of the move etc must of pushed it over the top and he was bloody all over in a matter of hours, Am stoked feeding him only peas sorted his constipation and salt treatment slowly healed his wounds. So glad i didnt bother with antibiotic treatments from the petshop which probably would of made it much worse and possibly ended up very sadly. Now hes very happy indeed, when he was at his worst he was bloody all over, very lethargic, so much so anyone would of thought he was dead he was sitting so still. Broke my heart but so glad i persevered, he is so beautiful
  6. Oranda is back to full health thanks to large water changes and feeding him only peas. so happy he is so happy Thanks for advice
  7. Lol my fish are not normally that fast, they seem to love the camera, actually they love any attention at all. right now they are being much more sedate. I havent seen them rubbing against anything, they tend to flock together but i figure thats normal? My transparent ryukin is the one who seems to be acting a little more active than the others, she was a bit of a bully to the oranda when i first introduced them all so i seperated them.
  8. Last video was of my main tank, had the oranda in there with 2 of the fantails and the blackmoore when he first started acting strange.
  9. ok cool will give that a try, so strange how bad the redness is because it happened in a matter of hours, so quickly. Never had a fish this sick before, sucks that its my first oranda also.
  10. There was no salt in the water when the fish got sick, i only added it to aid his healing. It is pure natural sea salt i added. 100% New Zealand sea salt(Cost me enough!) Nothing more in the ingredient list. 80-90% water change on my main tank or the quaranteen tank? Sounds a tad extreme on my main tank but can try it on the quaranteen tank rather than the 10-20% i changed today. Maybe im wrong but im pretty confident on my water quality, can show you my other fish if you like, they have occupied both tanks but are currently bunking together.
  11. Test kit i used was not great, need to purchase another but the pet shop will not open until monday. Not concerned about the tank levels because the other fish are fine, believe this fish was sick when i bought him, now just trying to figure out how to get him better because he is a gorgeous creature and dont want to return him to the petshop dead (although will have a few stern words for them) Any other natural remedies anyone can recommend? I understand you all dont want to give improper advice but this fish has been so close to the edge of no turning back that i would try anything that made sense at this critical time.
  12. Nothing has been moved from the main tank into the quaranteen tank except for the fish. Readings i gave are from the main tank. I am using natural sea salt and have been adding disolved doses of one tablespoon yesterday and then again today. So one tablespoon in 40 litres. Will try and post a picture, have a video of him so maybe can load it. Have been feeding him nothing but peas and am glad to see he is now passing poo finally. He has slightly improved today, still very bloody but his dorsal fin is up and he is actually swimming around which is an improvement. Getting a little bit frustrated that noone has offered me any practical advice to help me in the past 24 hour period which has been the worst for me. I understand there are questions to be answered but so far all anyone has done is ask questions rather then offer any actual help... Need some practical advice to help me, so far the salt and feeding only peas has seemed to help somewhat.
  13. I cannot seem to see your pictures of the fish but i just recently acquired a strange fish so i did some research online. Seems japanese scientists created a breed of 'transparent goldies' so they could view the insides of the fish without having to cut them open for research. They are not white, they are slightly pink but have very transparent scales, they also have dark blue/black eyes. (Not to be confused with albino which have red eyes or just white goldies who have just regular looking eyes). Will post a pic of mine when i have a chance, they are very interesting but there isnt much information on them, especially not pre-dating 2009-2010.
  14. The quaranteen tank i have him in is only 40ltrs large, so have treated it with natural sea/rock salt before placing him in there. [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? None present [*]Nitrite Level? .3ppm [*]Nitrate level? approx 30ppm [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? Ph level in tank is approx 7.2 [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? Tap water is approx ph level of 7.1 [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? Test kit used has been an AquaOne strip test kit. I am looking at getting a kit that is more specific for future use. [*]Water temperature? My large tank is approx 15 degrees C (100ltr tank) which is the tank the fish became unwell in, the other quaranteen tank is slightly warmer at about 18 degrees C (40 ltr tank). [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? As above and both have been running for a couple of months, were cycled for a week before the first fish i got were introduced. [*]What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Large tank has two large filters at each end of the tank, approximately 25 centimetres high and pentagon shaped. Unsure of the brand exactly, trying to learn more about them. The small quarateen tank is an AquaOne 340 pro and has an inbuilt filtration system using carbon filters and ceramics. [*]How often do you change the water and how much? I do water changes each week of 10-20% [*]how many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Last water change was today when sorting out fish to move oranda into quaranteen tank and last before that was a week ago today. [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? 3 Fantails, approx 2-3cm long (small), 1 Ryukin 3cm and 1 blackmoore 2cm, also two small hawaiian guppies compared to my new oranda which is about 5-6cm [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Aqua one water conditioner and TLC additive for ammonia removal etc [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? Two times a day, different flake food, just started them on peas also. Currently only feeding the oranda peas as i think he may be constipated and the illness could possible be septecemia? [*]Any new fish added to the tank? He is the only new fish in the past two months [*]Any medications added to the tank? Not yet, will consult my local fish store tomorrow once they are open [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? He doesnt have any grains of salt like ich. Just bloody streaks all over his body and fins, happened very quickly in a matter of hours. Also appears now to be constipated. Could be the cause perhaps. [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc. Since i brought him home after a little bit of a long journey (an hour in the car) he has not wanted to eat a thing. Had to seperate him from one of the other fantails who wanted to bully him. He hasnt seemed happy since i settled him in his new home. Acting listless and unhappy. Fine in the morning then this evening after work he is covered in bloody streaks. Offered him a few peas which he ate but that is all he has been interested in. he is just floating listlessly in the quaranteen tank now. Seemed to perk up a tiny bit when i put him in there but only for a few moments.
